What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a 3d sandbox survival construction open-ended massive block building ... game thing. Minecraft can be whatever you want it to be really but to break it down, it is a game about blocks and bad guys. The game has three modes/types:

Creative - This was the first thing to come out way back. Think basically legos but with blocks. All blocks are the same size, just with different textures (except lava,water, a few others). Left click breaks a block right click removes. Purely a creative experience. While this game mode was free, it is not even being hosted on the current site due to technical problems, but it is being phased out anyway for the real deal below:

Survival - This is where the game shines. It is ~~good~~ ~~great~~ amazing! In survival you do just that, survive. You start the game with nothing in an ever expanding world (see below). You must punch your way to resources, and then craft yourself some basic tools of survival. But be weary, the night brings dangers... and monsters!

Survival Multiplayer - This is basically survival but you can connect to a server to play with other people. As it stands now it is incredibly buggy and unstable, but its a start. Keep in mind everything is an alpha at this point.

Yeah yeah, thats all good and what not but why should I get it?
-The world is ever expanding. As you explore more world is randomly generated. To hit the edge you would effectively have to travel far greater lengths than the surface of the earth! Plus all this randomly generated-ness leads to some amazing and unique landscapes/caverns.
-Did I just mention caverns? Oh yes, this game has some of the coolest underground generation to date. The caves and twists and turns and lava falls and underground rivers are really spectacular.
-The ability to do what you want when you want. Wanna burn down a forest? Wanna fight zombies and skeletons with your longsword? How about an axe? Bow and arrow? Wanna build a gigantic Fort Tree!?

-The game is ever expanding, with a developed who is amazing at listening to the community and frequently updating. Though he has gotten some criticism lately for his lack of spectacular updates, Notch, the developer, really is an extraordinary guy! And there is so much more coming in terms of gameplay!
-Endless possibilities. Literally. Sure you might eventually get tired of this game, but this game grips you, in a way I can't describe. The most common tale of first time players goes something like this: "HOW THE FUCK IS IT 5 AM!?"

Your gif reminds me of my very first time "online" using Netscape trying to find my very first Playboy picture on "geo cities" but instead finding a bunch of HTML pages with nothing but construction yellow signs of people "working"... ooo the terrible stone age of the internet.... a wonderful place for a 9yr'old to sneak around behind his parent's backs ¬¬

...that said, looks promising. Will give it a try since it reminds me of LEGO which is an instant win, that toy was REALLY REALLY awesome before it went "hip".

Those extra features are free for a limited amount of time!!

Actually you should consider paying for the features once this trial thingie is over 'cause Minecraft owns owns owns

Uh... yeah. If a new user makes the thread, they obviously look like they only registered to advertise. If a well-known user makes a thread, they probably know the community and feel they would benefit from it. Seems pretty simple.

I already had my time with this game. It was enjoyable for a while and a couple playthroughs but after I had built my castle and farms and got a crapload of diamonds, there was just nothing else I cared to do.

heads up if u buy this game for teh epikkk online mode:

i play on the YCS server. its cool because theres a big flaming cross + sky swastikas + giant word N*GGER made out of obsidian and torches; it's p. funny imho. deets in the profile

dunno if teh server is up right now tho since it crashes every so often
