So I've once again been temporarily banned on ANN. I use the site for news and the encyclopedia, but the opinion columns and features are just ridiculous. Has anyone else noticed that the majority of the reviewers, site operators, moderators, and many of the users loathe moe, lolicon, and fanservice with a passion? It ignites a seething hatred in them I've not seen anywhere else to my knowledge. Try listening to their latest podcast, where they get chummy with this one caller for like 20 minutes discussing how "gross" and "icky" moe, lolicon, and fanservice are, and how they're "destroying anime as we know it!" -__- Then you might look back at previous podcasts and reviews, and previews, and anything else opinionated on the site, and start to notice a theme: they all appear to be giant soapboxes masquerading as legitimate journalism.

And yes, ANN is biased against moe, loli, fanservice and all that Jazz. The "experts" there grew up watching the old school anime of the 80s to the mid-90s, and as you can see, most anime of today isn't what it used to be. So they apparently have this mentality that "all recent anime is shit," and love to complain about why the Japanese won't make the type of anime they like.

I left ANN a long time ago, because I just couldn't stand their closed minded bias opinions. My suggestion, just don't go there. I don't even use it for news anymore. :P

I only use it for anime information that is all, there to many dumbass closed mind people on it, thats why I refuse to even call it or acknowledge it as a forum or any type of social networking ಠ_ಠ

If you're uploading your pic through Sankaku it may be the problem. Try using Gravatar.

I also use ANN just for the encyclopedia. Although I don't think it's a pretty fair assessment to blame it on being brought up with 80s and 90s anime as I also was brought with it and still enjoy the moe variety.

I avoid ann as much as possible myself. I just don't get though all the hate yeah i got into anime throufgh pokemon but as alot ofn you have seen through my posts i've seen enough older series to wish for some more variety HOWEVER i also enjoy loli moe series. I think they're just butthurt that their good old series are gone and i can get that but get with the times and look at history gar will be back if abime livs long wnough.

I got into a scuffle with one of the moderators about what I thought was the unfair bashing of, yet again, moe/loli/fanservice from a douche bag who calls himself the "Answerman." In reality, he's just another paranoid moral crusader with a hard on for old school anime.
As an aside, I always point out that I myself am a fan of old school anime. But also new anime. And there's nothing wrong or inherently dichotomous about this! I pride myself on not having buried myself into a niche. These poor fools have unfortunately done so, and when called on it, resort to pointing out the obvious fact that they have the right to free speech, whilst lecturing me on what not to say (don't you love irony!). That, and "it's sooooo gross/icky" which has got to be one of *the* most common and hopelessly naive cop outs in explaining their hatred of said genres.

I just read some of "Hey, Answerman" and the reviews of some of my favorite titles. ANd I have come to conclusion that they are really lacking something named constructive critism.
