Ok, when I remarried, after a long hiatus (since 1985) - in '93, we went along Kurfürstendamm in Stat Berlin, and looked at various wedding rings in various jewellers...
We found an small unique jeweller, settled away, nestled between a small cubby-hole, so we went in, and - "instantly" - settled on the combination platinum/titanium wedding set...
Same design too and worth every penny. (back then)
If I were to wear a ring now in devotion to the Waifu, it would be similar, with her name engraved inside it and that would be it.

It was NOT UNCOMMON for a single male to wear a ring in (devotion) to his (secret love) which was usually - "a Unrequited Love" - this went along with the definition of it as well, (of course) there are 2 sides to this type of amour, and it depends greatly on the pov of the devotion.
Many spouses, rare now-a-days, would also wear their (or a replacement ring) whenever they became a widower/widow in memory of that spouse - that also - "depended on the circumstances" - of their marriage when it was thriving, and many have (also) given thought to never remarrying (ever) again. - which also happened from time to time.
This was a time, when I thought of never re-marrying again, however, I did...
