Like prosciutto and other hams, speck is made from the hind leg of the pig, but, unlike other prosciutti, speck is deboned before curing.

Bacon is prepared from several different cuts of meat. It is usually made from side and back cuts of pork, except in the United States, where it is almost always prepared from pork belly (typically referred to as "streaky", "fatty", or "American style" outside of the US and Canada). The side cut has more meat and less fat than the belly. Bacon may be prepared from either of two distinct back cuts: fatback, which is almost pure fat, and pork loin, which is very lean.

tl/dr: speck is smoked ham, and is made using the pig's legs.
Bacon is made using back cuts or pork belly, and is not necessarily smoked.

Ahh thanks Vegio. That makes sense!

  2. I ended up eating a lot of cake.

My mom left it out of the fridge saying someone had to take care of it, and then since I wouldn't shut up while answering her questions with too many details, she told me to hurry up and eat that cake.

    So I did.

And after I finished eating, she said part of it was actually meant for my sister.

I feel a bit guilty. It was really a lot of cake.

  3. Nefly's Super-Easy Curry Rice

    Serves 2 or 3

100g of cubed Japanese curry mix (4 cubes or half the container)
    1 large onion
    1 potato
    2 carrots
    ~250g boneless chicken or beef
*Beef will taste better than chicken~!
    ~700ml water
    Short-grained (sticky) rice
    1 tablespoon of cooking oil

    1) Roughly chop the onion, potato, and carrots into medium-sized pieces.

    2) Cut the chicken or beef into bite-sized chunks. Don't trim any fat, because it will melt into the sauce and make it taste better <3

    3) Heat up a pot with the cooking oil, and stir fry the meat until it is lightly browned. Add the onions, carrots, and potatoes.

    4) Add approximately 700ml of water and let it come to a boil. Put on the lid of the pot, but leave a small space for steam to escape. Simmer the mixture until the potatoes are tender. This should take around 20 minutes.

    5) Add the curry cubes and stir the pot until it gets fully dissolved and incorporated into the sauce. At this point you can add some more water if it seems too thick. Optional: add a small splash of milk.

    6) Fill the curry with love.

    7) Ladle the curry over some warm rice on a plate. You're done! Good job!

(Not my picture by the way, but close enough~)

  4. I would have started with onions, carrots and potatoes before adding the meat, but since you said bite-sized chunks, maybe it takes more time for them to heat up! A-ha! I get it now, okay.

    Sounds lovely~
Especially the sixth point. As a man of the kitchen, I'm proud of you. I salute you, and I applaud you.

Thank you! It's because the meat takes longer than the vegetables to become fully cooked~ This is what I eat on lazy days because it's so easy.

  6. eeh, you're much more serious than me. When I'm lazy, I just cook some pasta, dress it with oil and parmesan, and add some canned tuna.

    Auu

My favorite cut if beef for curry is brisket but it's not the cut of meat that is usually cooked outside of stew and smoked in BBQ I think. So that might make it not super easy as there is some planning for shopping.

  11. I have this great recipe.

Take half a gallon of milk. Blue top. Green is for faggots.

    Take top off bottle.

    Drink milk.

    Throw away bottle.

Optional: put some of the milk on oats. This is a good idea in the morning.

  13. Here's a recipe I like crock pot beef stew.
I got this one from allrecipes.com

2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
    1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 bay leaf
    1 teaspoon paprika
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    1 onion, chopped
    1 1/2 cups beef broth
    3 potatoes, diced
    4 carrots, sliced
    1 stalk celery, chopped

Place meat in slow cooker. In a small bowl mix together the flour, salt, and pepper; pour over meat, and stir to coat meat with flour mixture. Stir in the garlic, bay leaf, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, onion, beef broth, potatoes, carrots, and celery.
Cover, and cook on Low setting for 10 to 12 hours, or on High setting for 4 to 6 hours.

I find it's even better if you stick some golden mushroom soup or a packet of dry gravy mix in it.

Delicious and nutritious! Milk has a damn near perfect ratio of protein, fats and carbs. And plenty of vitamin C
