This coming console gen, the two main players have so much to lose.
Sony's been in the red for a while now. For a time, they thought they'd be able to make a profit come next financial year, but they just recently revised their predictions by reducing estimated profit.
The Xbox label isn't smooth sailing either. Microsoft's potential Ballmer-replacer Stephen Elop(the guy who I think ruined Nokia) is thinking of ditching the Xbox division due to its high operation costs, and apparently, there's enough shareholders and the general public who agree with him.
I can't be too paranoid in thinking there are plenty of dirty games being played by the background, can I? Viral marketing isn't exactly new; we had marketers posing as anons posting on /v/ for a long time now. There is some chance that some, IF NOT MOST, of the bad rep surfacing about PS4 right now are greatly exaggerated or fabricated by MS goons.
On the other hand, Sony can't be too stupid in thinking they can brush their hands completely. PS4 had a lot of preorders since the Xbox reveal, and with such a long list of buyers, whoever's in charge of the suppliers must have been pressured to deliver, who then delivers that pressure back to their suppliers, who in turn pressured whatever manpower they have to meet the demands. And I can tell you this; doesn't matter if one can get 3 times as much salary in a month for doing overtime. Once you reach day 14 of working a 12-hour shift with no offdays at all, you'll start to wonder what's the point. You barely have the time to manage yourself day-in day-out, and your body will beg for a long rest.
I mean c'mon, Foxconn is a typical Chinaman business where profit is maximized at all costs, and if something breaks, they'll just pretend it never existed and find a new one. 'Supplier Code of Conduct' my ass. They can just put up a stage act every time an inspector comes in and resume their tyranny the next day. Sony of all people should know this well; they used to manufacture electronics themselves!
But of course, I'm rambling. People will complain about PS4 for a while and forget about it next year, and the poor kids working for Foxconn will still continue being enslaved until they snap.
