Monarchy vs. Republic: Today, I Become A Republican

  1. If anyone in this forum knew anything about me, I noted to people that I was a monarchist. But after some time thinking about my position, I realized: what's the point? I have to be honest with myself that monarchy is dead and gone for good. This century and the last two centuries have prove this. With the growing rise of republics and the anachronism of its' institutions, monarchies have no chance in hell of restoration. And then after reading several arguments that convinced me, I saw a pretty racy video of the Crown Prince of Thailand throwing a birthday party for his dog. WITH HIS WIFE NAKED!

    http://wikileaks.info/wiki/Suppressed_video_of_Thai_Crown_Prince_and_Princess_at_decadent_dog_party/

So, to Artefacts' and anybody else' joy, I decided to become a republican, leaving behind my immature notion that monarchy would help anything at all (man, was I stupid). Since this site is home to people from a variety of countries, I want to know from people who live in countries that are monarchies of some kind (and to nations that used to be monarchies), How do you feel about monarchy, are you a monarchist? If so, why? Or are a republican? if so why? (Giving notice to people who are apathetic about the whole situation, saying that you have indifferent about it is irrelevant and completely missing the point. Either you support what are in or not.) I especially want to know Artefacts' position on this, giving that he's against monarchy and yet, lives in one - if you can call it that.

And tom make this thread more relevant to people in this forum:

When will somebody in Japan create an anime staring the Imperial Family or make an anime with them being moe?(Hirohito Did It)

  2. huh?

a monarchist,.... does that mean you're into torturing butterflies?

    eeewww thats sick!!!....

    j/k

hmmm lets see, since I'm from Hawai'i, well considering that the US congress is considering returning some autonomy to the Hawai'ian Peoples, as Hawai'i was the last Monarchy that the USA overthrew. (Iolani Palace is the only Former Royal Palace on US soil, to date) Excluding Sadam Hussain although that was more of a dictatorship.

lemme get back to you on this one, -hangs up the phone

    Lame mans Term's:

Monarchy is that government with Kings/Queens/Emperors/Princes and whatnot as the head of state. Some have power some have not.

Republic is the government with the Presidents where we elect the head of state.
Some have power some have not.

Do you like to have or support one or the other?

  4. If you've ever been to Hawai'i in the last 10 years, its a majour local issue thats got the locals literally "all riled up".

I grew up there, and I also as it happens - support the movement for the return of the Hawai'ian monarchy. Because it resolves a lot of the injustices that the Hawai'ian People suffered at the hands of the US government in the last 140 years.

    So - are you happy?

I wasn't trying to antagonize. I saw "huh" on your first post and I thought you didn't understand. I know that there's a independence/autonomy movement in Hawaii. But thought the dynasty when it was a monarchy died out. If you have some more info about it, I'd be happy for your help.

  10. The blood line has thined over the years, but it hasn't completely died out.

I would suggest you wiki the Hawai'ian Monarchy, as well check out the Bishop Museum, is essentialy run by a foundation for one of the strongest claiming family members of the royal family to still exist today.

  11. Go democracy (don't hurt me ;-;)
i still prefer people in different area selecting representative by majority vote.

because i'm sure i can't trust one guy to always make good decision all the time.

and to make sure representative are in check, i would prefer a ruling body of experts who know when to draw a line in the sand between common sense and mob metality.

    you know, democracy

I figured that since you're from Canada and it is a Monarchy. But isn't there a growing debate about it. If you talked with anybody from Canada, do most like being in what America would've been If not for the revolution?

He's talking about Archduke Ferdinand. The man that was assassinated in which it started World War One. A BIG fuck up I might add.

    *Hits Vicious in the head*

You do know most monarchies left these days are constitutional ones. Meaning the monarch has limited, little to no power and is a figurehead who reign but does not rule. Something for the window dressers I suppose. The prime Minister and the elected parliament run the nation with the monarch "Dancing in the lilies of the fields who toil not neither do they spin". There are only 9 "true" monarchies in the world today. Proof of the profound changes of the last two centuries. Imagine a time when most of the world had monarchy as the form of government. Now it's the age of the republics, one might say.
