  1. I didnt find a topic for suggestions (not needed perhaps), so I'll just post my suggestion:

How 'bout comments sorting in the post? The best comments goes on top, the worst goes later? I forsee some potential mishaps, but it would be awesome. When a new person reads them, he probably will judge the topics that were already judged as good, and wont even get to bad ones (since they will be below), therefore chosing best among best, until only the very best stays on top.

    stuff..

That would only draw confusion If posts were rearranged because of ranking.. I personally find needlessly.

Even if it overrides nesting? That would be no good. Nesting is a staple of proper comment pages. (something YouTube doesn't seem to have yet)

  6. I think it would be fun to have something like e-hentai's hentaiverse. I joined that site a few weeks ago and started playing that hentaiverse game but it quickly lost its appeal. I'm sure than if sancon started something along those lines then it would be more fun and appealing.

That would cause problems. But I understand your point I believe. Most people only read the first few comments and rate on those first few. Then you get people replying to the first comment w/ unrelated discussions just so their comments can be on the top. I do wish something can be done about that.

sad truth is, if they don't like the comment, "they" including Artefact, it can be not only voted down to hell, it also sometimes end up completely deleted.

I find this censorship amusing, especially when we report on censorship in China and various government.

I think system needs more balance and check.

  9. You can switch off "bad" comments

  10. I would like the ability to ban people from whatever thread as long as I'm the one who made it

however this would cause major problems

GANTZ and other people would abuse it

and I remember asking about the ability to customize our profile pages more and artefact said he was thinking about implimenting that

    are you artefact?

"Censorship" is banning/suppressing specific ideas. The comments are only ever filtered for quality, not content. And very rarely at that. I don't think you can call that censorship by any stretch of reason.

Now that the Channel updates are almost wrapped up, the main site will be receiving quite a bit of attention soon. Don't think I can go into details yet, but more user customization and interaction will likely be a major focus.

and who decides if my post is mere limerick or troll?

just to point out that silliness.

  14. I don't think invoking "censorship" is really appropriate in the case of private sites setting standards for the content they allow users to publish on the site. Implying that sites should be forced to publish any comment a user happens to make is actually itself a worse abrogation of freedom of expression.

In any case, comments and forums are moderated. Not just on "quality," but on content - for starters many tens of thousands of spam comments never even made it onto the page. We don't want endless repetition of memes, illegal behaviour, malign slander or any other abuse on the page either. These might of course be considered elements of "quality."

The fact that you confuse an extremely liberal moderation regime with the right to post anything you want and have us publish it is a misconception on your part.

Regarding comment threading, I'm not rushing any changes but I do wonder whether threading is appropriate versus a flat "reply" layout, but removing threading is probably too radical.

The only way comments could be reordered by score is by reordering parent threads too, which severely complicates things. I think a phase 2 comment overhaul with ajaxed pages and other changes might include something like that.

A variety of other user functionality (PMs, profile pages, user groups, etc.) should be incoming before that.

I take your point in all you said. I just personally stated my opinion however previously: who are we to decide what reply is troll or serious? Though I do see what you want a bit more clearly then last time you made an appearance.

Complication or not, I personally unwelcome the idea.

I welcome this one, and at the same time, I see complications on this, too...

what BBS software does forum and site run off? This doesn't look like phpBB much to me but at the same time, elements are similar to older forums I used to goto, so just decide to ask. If for security reason you can't say, it's fine however.

  16. Time/date stamps on every forum posts and image link previews that fit the post width just like attachments instead of a tiny thumbnail...

This is a privately owned website, not a country. "The Management" (aka Artefact) decides. That said, once again, it's not like the rules here are draconian. Far from it. Complaining about moderation - let alone playing the "I'm being censored" card - here is like complaining about a cold day in Egypt.

But, in any case, this thread is supposed to be about suggestions for site features... and that's a useful thread to have. Let's keep it on track.

You mean on the post index, as a column next to the last poster for example? Or on the actual posts, in addition to the "Posted X hours ago"?

On the actual posts. Instead of merely stating how long a post has been in existence, do implement a proper time/date stamp/indicator of the post (e.g. "12:00pm, Tuesday, 26-Jan-2010") in place of "Posted X days ago". IMO, it wouldn't make sense for posts that have been in existence for between 1 and 2 years and thus labeled as "Posted 1 year ago".

I'm sure it would do many a favour especially when it comes to quoting old posts, backtracking and referencing. Yeah, time/date stamps on quotes would be nice too instead of simply "X-sama said:".

On the post index would be a bonus though.
