Sankaku Complex Forums

  1. Welcome to the forums.

Any information on the forums or their usage will be collected in this post, or in similar topics in the "Meta" forum.

Since I would rather see forum policy and usage evolve with the needs of the community, at the time of opening I am going to refrain from issuing any strong directives, and instead observe how matters develop. I hope this approach allows the greatest level of flexibility for the forums.

    A few remarks:

    Anonymous:
Currently, it is intended for full anonymous participation to be allowed, much as in the comments on the main site. The extremes of 4ch and similar are unlikely to be possible to accommodate though, so please exercise some restraint.

    Editing:
You can currently edit your posts for one hour after making them. Please do not abuse this function.

    Formatting:
    BBCode and HTML are supported.

    Replying:
Use the quote button to add an automatic quote.

    Images and Attachments:
Attached files are automatically inserted into posts. You can also link external files or images in using img tags, which can also be done for images on Sankaku Channel.
Regarding 2D images fit for the Channel, please consider uploading them there instead.

    P2P/RS/Torrents:
Sharing may be allowed in a special forum, but definitely not in the normal forums. This is obviously a difficult subject which will require some discussion. Pure discussion about such topics should not present any difficulties.

    Acceptable Content:
If you are uploading adult or potentially upsetting (guro) content, be sure to tag it as such. Uploading things significantly at variance with what is on the site proper may create difficulties.

    Tagging:
Topics can be tagged, and then navigated by these tags, allowing considerable flexibility in navigation. For example, tagging a thread "Kannagi" will mean anyone browsing that tag page will be able to see all Kannagi related topics irrespective of which forum they are in.
Please try to refrain from creating excessively obscure or overly discriminating tags, as otherwise nobody will be able to find anything using them. If you can't imagine other posts happening under a given tag, consider using a broader one.
It would be simplest to use similar tags to those used on the main site.

    Forums:
The available forums are subject to change; currently they broadly reflect the categories used on the main site, but this will be reformed as required.

    Compatibility:
If you notice any issues, please report them in the Meta forum or via email. Unfortunately, it is not possible to support IE6, though efforts will certainly be made to accommodate this unruly and obsolete browser as much as possible. Please consider using Firefox.

  2. sounds pretty sweet I must say it's more functional then most forums I use. Is it all google chrome compatible?

  3. I really like the idea of tagging threads, just wondering... to get a list of related threads, will the system just grab all the recent threads with one of the tags in it, or will it do some sort of advanced algorithm?

  4. is this forum based off of any particular template? like the lithium forums or proboards? I realize it's obviously proprietary cause it's not finished but i was wondering if you are coding from scratch or is it based on existing software

  5. My personal guess tells me that this is from scratch, due to the simple-ness and the somewhat unusual tagging feature. =)

Oh, and Chrome works just as good as every other browser, there's just one small thing... it takes some time from the moment I click on the Quote-button for the actual qute to appear in the reply window... wanna check on that?

It's based on an implementation of bbPress - the simplicity is intended. It also has some very interesting features, like the tagging.
Related posts will be a hybrid tag/keyword system in all likelihood, along the same lines as the one on the main site. Search and related will go in once there's some actual posts though...

I'll have to look at testing Chrome, the feature you're talking about is fairly simple Ajax though, it shouldn't be causing problems...

Being a member for all of two minutes, I must say—the forums are awesome. Simple, fast, clean. Good choice, Artefact.

Thanks, as you can probably tell, those are exactly what I was aiming for. You can add customisable to that too.

  11. Maybe you should come up with a set of official rule other then some of these artefact.

    Posted 7 years ago #
  12. More interesting to make the rules up as we go along, no?

should we not see how things will go first?

  16. The forum presents a different outlay than you see on alot of sites, and by that I mean it's not the same InvisionBoard layout you see all the time, all over the place. New, a little hard to grasp at first glance, but it doesn't take long to learn your way around it. The simplicity of it makes it really easy and quick to use.

As far as the moderation of certain things such as torrents, p2p etc. I have already seen one instance of a linked file, it was a crack for a piece of software and not the actual software itself, so I don't think that's a red flag to be brought up, but I think it should be clarified whether that sort of thing is an exception to the rules or not.

All in all, nice work Artefact, I think the forums have a bright future ahead of them.

  17. deleting your posts ability would be nice. I have one i need to delete in games.

  18. It opens extremely fast for me. Just wished that the width of the text boxes were wider. It's still cool though.

I know caution is required leaving the rules open like this, but soon we'll have an idea of how things are going.

Currently, I'm leaning towards allowing clearly marked (tagged) "light" P2P and similar, but nothing "heavy" like ISOs. This is not intended to be a P2P free-for-all as such... Another issue I'm pondering is heading off competition between the Channel and the forums, as they both serve superficially similar purposes in the realm of 2D images.

I see you've discovered an interesting formatting problem with your name there - FF can't break continuous text into multiple lines...

Very wide text areas tend to get harder to read, and mean sidebars are out of the question, hence the choice of a restricted width.

I will check this out - should be possible to give people 15 minutes to delete their posts or some such.
