   its in japanese though so i dunno what the hell those things are. any help from our jap speaking peeps? it seems gooogle translates everything to alien in my fish. but what is that animal? im just curious :P

   No need to know japanese, just good taxonomy/biology actually. It is doubtless a crustacean of the Cymothoa genre, and by the looks of things I'd say it is the famous Cymothoa Exigua, a parasite that replaces its host's tongue after eating it away.

   thanks for the info. was really trying to look for it in google to no avail. apparently i was searching for the wrong things("fish parasites, parasites thriving in fish heads") didnt know they replaced tongues @_@

   LOL yes, that would fit perfectly.

   In all seriousness though, that's just nasty... I wouldn't want that to be in my fish, even if I'm not eating the head. Think about it; it attaches itself onto the artery which connects to the tongue. That means it's got its saliva in the bloodstream of the fish. Which means that the saliva is going into every other part of the body, which you eat. Nasty.
