How nice of you to ask! C:
I certainly still draw, but this thread is poisoned with self-important art critics whose horses are so god dang tall I can't compete. My art has never been the object of their wonderful advice, but I don't post my art here anymore so that I can keep it that way.
[Edit] But actually, I do feel like talking about art.
Recently, I made the big switch from oekaki to proper art software. Oekaki increasingly often proved how unreliable it is. The bigger and more detailed my pictures became, the sooner oekaki crashed. I mainly used Shi Painter, which is, in my experience, the most reliable oekaki applet, but even Shi Painter couldn't handle oekaki files over 800kB.
I've now started familiarising myself with Paint Tool SAI. I bloody suck at using it, but I realise what a fantastic program it is so I'd really like to get good at using it.
It's basically having to learn how to draw all over again. Or rather, how to paint and how to colour. I have the biggest trouble achieving the effects that I have in mind. I haven't yet figured out how to properly blend colours or how to force certain brushes' colours to be more persistent (that is, preventing them from mixing). As a result, the drawings and paintings I do end up being full of unrefined elements that look awfully amateurish and ugly. But I do notice that I get a better understanding of SAI everytime I use it, so I'm still motivated to keep trying.
The other day, I shallowly searched YouTube for SAI colouring tutorials, but the videos I came across all featured fairly (anime) stylised art, while I'm looking to colour and paint somewhat more realistically. Any suggestions are welcome, of course!
