It may not be as common now, I don't know. That at least used to be the case.

    Edit: Here's a reference.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_of_the_Immortal#Editing_in_the_English_language_adaptation

Vertical flips a lot of the manga they release, unless it'd become a huge pain in the ass like Drops of God.

But yeah, if your native language is English and you are making your comics read "Manga style", you are making sure to get a huge population of potential reads to not read it because it's assumed that your story is going to be just a rip off of anime you watch and completely unoriginal.
It also doesn't help that your artwork looks incredibly unoriginal and mediocre with perspective problems and even without text problems with the pacing of the story. Who the fuck is that little girl suppose to be? All we see is her feet and then her peeping around the corner. Why not slow it down and show more interaction between the protagonist and the little girl. In the last panel, is the protagonist doing the limbo where his neck disappeared or is he looking up and over at something while doing the limbo?

i know anytime i read something that looks like a manga i immediately start reading it from right to left. I figured it's the same for other people.

I just remembered that, before I had ever heard of or seen manga, I had a habit of flipping through magazines from back to front. I don't know why.

this is why i post things here.

The girl is his sister but I don't really want to get too into her just yet. over all she's not going to be that important of a character herself (probably) her main purpose is to help illustrate the kind of person the main character is. I kinda wanted to get him to school fairly quickly since it's more about him and his classmates than about his sister. even now I'm having second... rather third thoughts about his little sister. Originally she was going to be more confrontational. then, for some reason, i decided to make her shy. I think I'm going to go back and keep it the way i wrote it.

The last panel is supposed to be him walking down the street with the camera kinda above him. I was a bit unsure about the perspective myself.

This is the first time I've tried to tell a story in comic form so there are going to be plenty of rough spots. that's why i like to show it to you guys first so i can actually make it good. I was actually going to step away from the anime style and try something else but i really wanted to do this now so i guess defining my style will have to either come later or while i'm working on this. I'm not taking this completely seriously but I don't want to half-ass it either.

  8. You should show more interaction between the sister and the brother. Maybe have him walk by the kitchen table and having her say "good morning", only to be completely ignored as he continues his morning routine. Then you can have her looking around the corner as he leaves and try to tell him something as he walks outside and closes the door on her.

well the later part i already have. it was, more or less going yo be the guy saying something like "I'm going to be home a little late tonight, I have to pick up some stuff for dinner after school" or something like that anyway. that way you can kinda infer that it's just him and his sister. for that night at the very least. but again, it's not a major point at this part of the story so i don't want to get to into it. you're probably right about extending the scene though. I was thinking of how guy richie does things. like at the beginning of snatch where the diamond is changing hands and it shows a bit of what's going on but it's really quick. i just wanted to rush through his morning like that. I would have skipped him in his house altogether but i wanted to throw in the bit with his sister.

  12. You read manga right to left, doesn't matter the fucking ethnicity of the author, god fuck damn it people.

  13. That must make it interesting when it isn't printed that way.

more or less. but those are just a few here and here. if you go and ask anybody which way it's read they'll tell you right to left.

  17. What about "World Manga" that's written left-to-right originally?

  18. you can give all the examples you want but it still doesn't change what people expect from manga.

  19. It doesn't matter what you expect. Read it the way it's written or be confused.
