I also really like Periphery. This album is quite enjoyable.

Today is the birthday of the legendary Russian rock musician but Korean bloodline. Today he would have been 50. He has died in 1990.
Viktor Robertovich Tsoi (Russian: Ви́ктор Ро́бертович Цой, Korean: 빅토르 초이 Bigtoleu Choi, sometimes transliterated as Zoy); 21 June 1962 – 15 August 1990) was a Soviet rock musician, leader of the band Kino.
He is regarded as one of the pioneers of Russian rock and has many devoted fans across the countries of the former Soviet Union even today. Few musicians in the history of Russian music have been more popular or have had more impact on their genre than Viktor Tsoi and his rock band Kino.
Tsoi contributed a plethora of musical and artistic works, including ten albums. He died in a car accident on August 15, 1990, aged 28.

I was surprised most top comment are from japanese...after going through some research, seems like Japanese people could appreciate jazz enough that Blue Note Jazz Club have branches in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.

Visual-Kei is dead, though idol boy groups are plentiful and popular. T
Japan has this thing with cross-platforming- Anime music is not popular there. It's promotional efforts. Aniplex is a Sony's animation partner and they get their theme from Sony Music Japan artists. If you have a popular series, the song might get popular too; if you have a popular band doing the OP/ED, you get people to watch to hear it by making it the only way they can hear it til hits radio rotation. That might perk interest in the anime as they have seen the first episode due to such as well. We only really do this for like...MTV shows and movies.
Tokyo has a healthy, diverse music scene and is the centre of interaction for a lot of the more creative acts out there.
