BAALBEK, Lebanon: A patient, angry that a doctor tried to shave his body hair to perform an operation, called his friends to open fire on a Baalbek hospital Monday, sources said.
The patient, a member of the Zeaiter family, was drawn into a verbal dispute with the surgeon who told him he would need to shave stomach hair to perform surgery on his kidney.
The situation quickly escalated as the patient, concerned that his masculinity was at stake, dialed his friends, the source told The Daily Star.
The gunmen swiftly arrived in a Grande Cherokee before opening fire on the Mortada Hospital. The attack caused some material damage to the second floor of the hospital, but no casualties were reported.
The source said that the surgeon and patient were related.

A 75-year-old woman who had £10,000 worth of jewellery stolen from her house has given £20 to the burglar who wrote her an apology letter.
Kevin Derbyshire and accomplice Graham Llewellyn, both 24, were jailed for 32 months each for the burglary in August at Loretta Smith's home in Bolton.
She contacted Derbyshire after receiving his letter and learning he had a child.
"I just hope he never does anything like this again," Ms Smith said.
"They took all of my jewellery and... just took basically whatever they could get their hands on. It was just horrible really," she added.
'Horrible messages'
Derbyshire's letter from prison said: "To the victims of the really horrible crime I have committed, I just want to say that I am really sorry for my stupid actions.""Things like this shouldn't happen at all and I didn't know what I was doing at the time," he continued.
"It was only when I went on Facebook and read all of the horrible messages about me it clicked what I had done."

Ms Smith said she answered the letter as a matter of courtesy saying how "silly he had been" and that she hoped he "would learn from his mistakes".
Derbyshire replied with a second letter promising to send Ms Smith a bunch of flowers and bottle of wine on his release.
She responded again, saying that was not necessary and included a £20 note with the letter after hearing he had a girlfriend with a baby.
"I thought the people that suffer now are the people that are left at home," she said.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook has publicly acknowledged his sexuality, saying that he is "proud to be gay".
Mr Cook made his announcement to try to help people struggling with their identity, he wrote in a Bloomberg Businessweek article.
He has been open about his sexuality, but has also tried to maintain a basic level of privacy until now, he said.
This week Mr Cook challenged his home state of Alabama to ensure the rights of gay and transgender people.
"I don't consider myself an activist, but I realize how much I've benefited from the sacrifice of others," he wrote.
"So if hearing that the CEO [chief executive] of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it's worth the trade-off with my own privacy," he added.
Mr Cook said that he had been open about his sexuality with many people, including colleagues at Apple, but that it still "wasn't an easy choice" to publicly announce his sexual orientation.
He quoted civil rights campaigner Martin Luther King, saying: "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' "
This week Mr Cook referred to Martin Luther King in a speech in Alabama in which he called for equal rights for people based on sexual orientation and identity.
He said that Alabama had been too slow to ensure the rights of ethnic minorities in the civil rights era, and was now being too slow to guarantee gay rights.
"Under the law, citizens of Alabama can still be fired based on their sexual orientation," Mr Cook said.
"We can't change the past, but we can learn from it and we can create a different future."
Mr Cook has championed equality at Apple, but in August said he was "not satisfied" with workforce diversity at the company.
Outstanding, a not-for-profit professional network for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) executives, said on Thursday that many LGBT people in the UK felt it was "safer to stay in the closet" when at work.
In May a US study by LGBT organisation Human Rights Campaign suggested that 53% of US LGBT employees had not come out at work.

SHOTACON SNACKBAR DOCTOR RAPES 12-YEAR-OLD BOYS
A junior doctor working in paediatrics has admitted online child grooming and sexually abusing boys as young as 12.
Dr Raza Laskar from Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, also pleaded guilty to possessing images of abuse.
He denied six of the 37 charges he is accused of when he appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
Laskar, 31, was arrested as part of a police operation which targeted men who accessed abuse images online. There is no evidence his patients were abused.
Det Insp Theresa Carter, said: "Like Jekyll and Hyde, he is vastly different in moral character depending on the situation, going from caring for and treating children to deliberately targeting, grooming and abusing them.
"I can stress that we found no evidence that he committed any offence during the course of his employment."
NHS England confirmed Laskar had previously worked in a number of hospitals across Greater Manchester.
In May, police executed a warrant at Laskar's home after 1,605 files believed to contain indecent photographs of children were uploaded from an IP address at his home.
The files had been uploaded between Christmas Day 2013 and January 2014.
Police found hundreds of chat logs and videos of Laskar engaging in sexual acts with a child who had been taken in a hotel room he had booked.
They also discovered he had more than 1.2 million images.
Some victims were based in the UK and others were from around the world, police said.
A NHS England spokesman said: 'The charges against Dr Laskar did not relate to his work. However, we would like to extend our sympathies to the victims and families involved in this case. "
They are urging anyone with any concerns to contact them.
Laskar will be sentenced on 9 January.
