He shouldn't apologize for the 47% remark. In fact, he might get a few Democrats to vote for him with that: a lot of the "liberals" in cities like NY and LA actually hate the "gimme" welfare-dependent Democrats and may vote for Romney if he's actually serious about his remarks.I'm actually opposed to the welfare state as currently constructed (and not just in the US).

There is a need for a social safety net and there is zero excuse for hunger to exist in the world's richest country.
I didn't say there shouldn't be some social safety net. I'm just saying that the government is doing a piss poor job at it.

That's not the fault of conservatives or liberals: that's the fault of a society and system that falsely drills into people's heads that a college degree is something everyone should pursue. The market then gets hot because many people who can't even do basic algebra are given student loans or grants to pursue some useless degree that does nothing more than serve as a jobs program for professors who have useless degrees themselves. The higher-education industry (and yes, it's an industry) is no different from the housing industry in this country.
There's another thing we agree on.

A country where the people who depend on government money for food are fatter than the ones who shell out twice as much as they should out of their own pockets at Whole Foods?

And that's where we agree. The problem with what socialism we have here in the US is that it's become an unsustainable spoils system.

You sure he didn't experience that for two years in France? I mean the country was going through a pretty tumultuous time then.
I wonder what our french members think of Charles De Gaulle.

He was first and foremost a nationalist: so probably highly, even if they disagree with his politics.

Unless if you was a socialist in 68. Or a Muslim.

communitycollege is the least what everyone should go for. Only carrying high school degree puts you in severe disadvantage in the job marketPosted 8 months ago # -

You just answered you own question the rich shop at places like Whole Foods.
The poor eat cheap processed crap that is mostly processed grain and HFCS aka empty calories.
The working poor it's even worse since they're tired after work and time is often short they end up eating cheap fast food and microwave dinners.Posted 8 months ago # -

There starts to be demising returns after getting a bachelors and few jobs require a Phd.
Too many people brand shop and then they get in to the situation many of the OWS protesters are in.Posted 8 months ago # -

When you're broke you end up buying cheap crappy processed food that is unhealthy.
Try reading a label the cheap stuff is filled with processed grain and HFCS because those are cheap ingredients.Still a Bullshit argument - I got pay so you can have "Fancy Meals"? Goto a friggin' produce market and buy fresh. Hell, make a garden in the back yard - Why is it always someone else's problem.
Dude...
Lunch meat & bread, cereal, Peanut Butter & Jelly. Pasta, Macaroni & Cheese, Bacon & eggs. (Organic even). Perdue Chicken fillets. Canned vegatables - these are simple foods that will not KILL YOU.
I teased a MFC model today because she loves eating "Frozen Dinners" (like Hungry Man) - I haven't eating that crap in over 10 years. I grew up on it. Why because my Dad was Lazy. I only ate "home cooked" meals at my Mom's or family functions. I survived.
I can eat WHATEVER I want - you know what I choose:
Wendys, Pizza, Chinese Food, Pub lunches, Hamburgers, Ramen, Tuna fish, cereal, ice cream, mash potatoes - all made fresh by ME or the place I order it.
I haven't eaten FROZEN anything in years. It's CHOICE! somedays I pay $10 to eat for the day others it's only $2 - For the WHOLE DAY!
You could eat generic "normal food" like the rest of us OK Rockafeller. Better learn how to econimize your food fast - when Romney wins ALL those Freebies will be "Harder" to achieve...but maybe prices & the economy will be better by that point.
