I think many of the problems with recent electronics such as Xbox 360s dying is due to RoHS the EU's gift to the world that keeps on giving grief.
I'm pretty sure the asshats who came up with the regulation were not electrical or materials engineers.
Any engineer would know that tin has some undesirable qualities and that lead mitigates them.Though the dreamcast predates RoHS so another common problem bad caps is likely.
Though from what I heard they are generally very trouble free unlike PS2s which seems to burn out it's lasers and motor driver ICs.Posted 9 months ago # -
