Asian Drama Thread (Discussion and Recommendations)

  1. Akihabara@DEEP is otaku themed. It's set in Akihabara (otaku central) and most of the main characters are otaku (one who isn't, a young lady, works at a maid cafe by day, and fights in cage matches by night).
In Sexy Voice and Robo, one of the two main characters is a robot otaku.

There's a drama called Flying Daggers. Also one called Legend of Dagger Li, about the Flying Dagger of Swordsman Lee.

  6. Flying Daggers for some reason that makes me think of a tv show featuring the everyday antics of Sakuya and Meiling.

  12. My favorite would be "Nobuta wo Produce." It made Yamashita Shunya into my favorite actor and Horikita Maki into my favorite actress. Which, of course, led me to watch "Kurosaki" as well, which surprised me when I realized I knew the old man's actor as well 'cause he starred in an ooooooooold movie when he was young that I liked.

    Other recommendations including:
--"1 Litoru no Namida (1 Litre of Tear)" for its heavy tear-jerking.
--"Hachimitsu to Kurobaa (Honey and Clover)" for being fun and cute.
--"Dragonzakura" for having an interesting idea and actors/actresses.
--"Great Teacher Onizuka" (1998 version--the new 2012 version had some pretty horrible acting...) for having life lessons you can take with you forever.
--"JIN" and its concluding sequel for having one of the most interesting premises and plot twists I've ever seen.
--"Densha Otoko (Train Man)" for being a great story for Otaku.
--"Summer Snow" for surprising me over its shoujo/josei themes.

...and "Winter Sonata," which is the only Korean drama I have so far truly enjoyed. It was turned into a Japanese anime, using the Korean actors/actresses from the drama as the voice actors/actresses, too!
