     I'm trying to be a little more objective than that you realize. As many genuinely like Tsunderes, one needs to compare their appeal to the other "Dere" archtypes. What is appealing about a Tsundere, a Kuudere, a Dandere, etc.

     But I suppose that reasoning works for you as long as you don't carry it beyond the personal level.

     No, you've got it the wrong way around. My personal opinions are objective; it's yours that are just subjective weirdness.

     So I am clearly the one who can extrapolate from his reasons for liking a certain character type that everyone else who likes it likes it for the same reason. Silly goose!

     I'm actually not so sure about that. I'd say that no matter how much anyone hates her, Asuka is the precursor of Modern Tsundere.

     Akane pre-dates Asuka, there is no argument there. However, Akane belongs to the less popular type of Tsundere, the Type B (sometimes also called the Takahashi Tsundere). Looking back, Asuka is hard to even call a Tsundere at times, she's basically 50% Tsun and 50% psychological mess. However she does act more in line with the far more popular Type A, which forms the majority of Tsundere in modern Anime.

     After Asuka, the Type A exploded in numbers and popularity, while after Akane the numbers of Type B have more or less stayed constant, possibly even decreased. Akane may predate Asuka, but Eva had FAR more influence on the industry at large (some even say it marked the beginning of the Modern Era of Anime) than Ranma 1/2. Shinji made the "reluctant hero" far more popular, and Rei is considered by some to be the first "Moe Character". Akane may have been Tsundere before, but considering she is Type B, while Asuka is much more like the far more numerous Type A and that the series she came from was far more influential, I would call Asuka the precursor of Modern Tsundere.
