The internet is not a kind place, and it never will be. People just have to deal with that.

I can't believe people are trying to justify this
When it comes down to it that is a poor highly disabled young girl with enough problems who did not need this
I don't personally even really feel comfortable that this has been posted hereIt's her parents fault for going to the news about it so that everyone could see how she looks now and can mock her by name and know where she lives and find everything about her instead of just laughing at a picture of a kid with down syndrome. They hoped for sympathy and instead just told everyone who the picture of the girl is.

Exactly, its her parents fault, not hers but she is taking the shit for it - not her parents

I have to say that this makes me want to cry a little. I know trolls are trolls, but even so this is a little far in my opinion. Kind of like irrational Christians telling everyone that they will go to hell for premeridal sex and so on and so forth with their beliefs and actually throwing rocks at others and protesting war victims funerals. I feel bad for the girl and the mother has a right to be outraged.
I will say that this meme is also new to me. I have never seen it then again it is also not in my nature to criticize people with Down's Syndrome or other mental handicaps/handicapables.
I live close to Facebook headquarters. I should pay them a visit. :3

They're getting shit too for the fact that it's exploded.

You can take it off of facebook, but it's already all over the internet and will appear on facebook again soon enough. You can't just get rid of a facebook page and expect it to go away. I don't like that her feelings are being hurt by this either, but there's nothing anyone can really do. The better thing would have been just not to tell her about this. :/

I feel bad for her to, but there's not much anyone can do about it now that
it's on the internet.Posted 1 year ago # -
Inb4 people start feeling righteous, have you never laughed at a joke about mentally handicapped people? I'm sure most people have done it once in their life. Not at a specific person, but if you've called someone retarded, made reference to the special Olympics or anything along those lines, you've already made light of the challenges they face.

I'm fairly neutral with this issue. On one hand, people should be very conscience on what they do in the internet, especially if they show their face. If you don't want to be ridiculed, the safest bet is to not post at all. If it happens don't antagonize it or crusade against it. For it might boost the ridicule to a point you can't stand. But on the other hand, I don't want to say that this is, to put it mildly, "good". This further goes to show that we humans can be jerks in every way possible. Yes, we all make such jokes so I can't criticize and changed that. But try to be mindful of them too.

But do to knowing a few in such situation I try to be prudent with such things. But just because you make some offhand joke doesn't mean you shouldn't feel bad for someone who is ridiculed and doesn't really deserve it. Which is why I'm neutral in this.

29 posts later and I feel no remorse for this situation.

I always use the term "retarded" to mean "really stupid," and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. People who are actually mentally challenged and the politically correct have long since abandoned the word because they deem it offensive, and it's unfair everyone else should have to abandon it as well. Also, the word "moron" is safe enough to use in TV-Y7 shows, yet originally THAT was the politically correct term for mentally challenged. Having a double standard like that is frankly... retarded.
