Sankaku Complex Forums » General

  1. Greetings ~

I thought I would start a thread (where) we could share our favored Radio Station's that we listen to.

I listen to RTL (Berlin) on my mobile and while I drive about.

So, what stations do my fellow Sankaku members listen in on in their country (or) area?

Edit: I will add more later, as I'm using my mobile to make this entry.

  2. Since CNN doesn't have a news radio station and all the local stations that allege to have News Only format, are chock full of regualr and idiotic commercials. There is no real choice.

I listen mostly to NPR, for fewer commercials, and real news.

    http://www.npr.org/

Also since the majority of "radio" in the usa are run by automated preprogramed format. You're not likely to get serious Public Service Announcements in case of a real emergency like a Tornado Alert, or a Serious Geological Event in the area. . . Or even an invasion of space aliens. Such things are known only after the fact as you encounter them.

I do the same, however I was recommended to try - Tunein Radio - and use the App - and I like it, I hence my renewed interest in radio.

I do like all kinds of music (except) Rap and some Country.

So, recommend, share, and let me know.

This is not a request, though it could be, however I'm interested in the world's music stations.

  9. Clear channel is the cancer that is killing radio in the US.

  11. I used to listen to this: http://www.kawaiiradio.org/

Now, I don't really listen to radio or music that often.

In this case, I use my portable scanner (as well as) a Scanner App (plus) online scanner sources.

Then again, I always was into radio traffic, such as it is, because I like to always be informed when a major event occurs, verses watching/listening to media who has a tendency to (edit) much of it out.

I frigging hate radio stations, you get to pick from local (dutch) music, ancient stuff, somewhat modern stuff but the DJ's are annoying fags or old rock.

Now only old rock is somewhat up my alley.. but they classify way too much as rock and even just rock gets boring quite fast. If for whatever reason I'm too lazy to hook my phone/mp3 player to the audioset and/or my server (which has all the music) is down I listen to chronixradio.

  14. ~ I appreciate ALL the input, as its given me a insight, on what is going on currently with radio stations.

I don't mind listening to the language of the country of origin, as I enjoy listening to it and how stations merge the music between the spoken words.

    Back in the day...

I listened to - "wolfman jack" - when he was a continuous presence during the AM Radio days.

FM radio was regulated to - classical - and elevator music basically then...

But, FM radio now - here in the US and what I have encountered - has become a lame version of AM radio of the past, because its mostly lame-arsed DJ's who host lame-arsed morning shows, where they laugh for no apparent reason, talk super loud, thinking that their jokes are side-splitting when its obvious that they suck.

So, because of this travesty on the airwaves, I migrated to listening to self made music collections on my MP3 player, then I started to listen to SAT Radio and Online radio, as I use Live365 for my online radio/music listening tastes so I hear it w/o interruptions, as I like it this way.

  16. BBC Radio 1: I like to keep up to date with chart/mainstream music even if a lot of it is crap.
They have too few good DJ's though and the good ones they do have seem to go on holiday all the time.

BBC Radio 4: My Mum listens to this, but I end up listening to it too. Much of my politics knowledge comes from here. I like a lot of their shows, the comedy is especially brilliant.

  17. C C mentioned an mp3 device.

I keep an mp3 player in the car when all else fails. Bad reception or technical difficulties. Benefit is NO commercials and NO idiot commentary.

    Same....

I use a thumb drive for that, in place of my mobile, if need be.

    Edit:

I have add some of these Stations, as I liked what I have heard, very enlightening..

Keep them coming! - I appreciate it!

  19. The only redeeming quality of RADIO is if you're a teenager.

Once upon a tiem, when I was a a little shitter myself. My local rock station/pop music station would have contests for trendy bands or popular acts. You would get tickets and all kinds of related swag.

Though being in Hawai'i some stations actually gave you prepaid 2 way airline tickets for two, plus the RSVP's for the concert promos.
There was even a station that gave away tickets to see U2 in Japan (including airfare & hotel) of course this was back in the day when U2 was at its peak popularity.

These days most of the "Acts" kind of suck. So you would have to be really into the groups of your generation to participate in their contests, most only give away tickets - getting there is your problem, and the swag given away is the cheap stuff, they keep the decent stuff for themselves.

... those fuking cheap bastards, that own the stations these days.
