there have been several Reconciliation and Reunification efforts and i mean alot of them since 1971, the later a total bad idea imho as is really painful to watch that people in the North as so brainwashed that they basically are accepting Starve to death as the dear leader is 'trying' to do everything to 'create' a 'wonderful' country , so what if finally the South Korean gov accepts go into an Unification War and make The Korea Peninsula a whole again? , the small population that the north have will die either because they will attend the Call of Duty and defend their 'country' or die in progress of this unification war but keep in mind that their army has nuclear weapons (although most of them they fail but they carry nuclear shit anyway), therefore you would get some the collateral damage in the process and in mah opinion when North Korea starts to feeling that they are finally losing , im pretty sure they will make a big suicidal attack because they will prefer to die rather that be united again, this is really a hard topic

It's not like South Korea would want them anyways. The cost of reunification outweighs any benefit to it.

It's not the first time Korea has been divided. The Korean peninsula has been united for only 1000 years in their 3000+ year history. The only reason that reunification look so bleak is that the power leaders in the north have mismanaged it in more than below epic proportions that the reunification of Germany looks like a marriage to a sweet tooth and occasional shouter in comparison with a marriage to a hardcore criminal and drug addict.

I can only see reunification more palatable to both sides if North Korea finally realize that the cold war is over, communism lost and the Juche ideology only makes things worse. Go the China route if you think communism has any relevance today. The problem is that it could mean the sudden end to the regime.

But I've always had a problem why North Korea is dubbed too dangerous to invade, at least in times like this. The coalition can invade Iraq over the basis of having nuclear weapons. But when North Korea has them, they take caution in dealing with them. You can say China is a factor to but what connection China have or even should have for North Korea now? I say have a secret deal with China to get them out the way.

If North Korea change it's economy drastically, it might be of greater benefit to the south than East Germany was to the west.

That's the bulk of the cost.
