Last non-anime movie you watched

  1. I just watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Pretty good movie, Rooney Mara is pretty hot the entire time, and Daniel Craig was his usual self so it was an enjoyable movie. Made me wanna see the Swedish trilogy and check out the books.

Now then, while I was watching I redownloaded Spice & Wolf thinking it was a better copy of what I had but it seems its basically the same, but since its already here it would be a waste of good ol' fun Horo and her mischief, so I'm rewatching that right now

Aneko, did you ever see The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas?

I just finished it, and it's no Schindler's List or Pan's Labyrinth. At least the ending did not disappoint me, other than the one thing that someone should have questioned.

  10. I watched Rebecca last night. Out of the Hitchcock movies I've seen this one sits at the bottom. And out of the Best Picture movies that I've seen, it also sits on the bottom.

Its not terrible, its just not all that either. The only redeeming quality I can find in it is that the main character got away with murder at the end, and that's something they dont do in movies too often (much less in 1940)

I should mention I'm trying to watch every movie that has won the oscar for best picture, in order.

I would recommend All Quiet on The Western Front, It Happened One Night, Mutiny on the Bounty, The Life Of Emile Zola and Gone With The Wind

  11. I just remembered a couple of scary movies. First is the original The Andromeda Strain (1971) (not the hunka hunka crappy junk "remake"). The film is extremely realistic (although a little dated now) in it's portrayal of a scientific investigation of an alien micro-organism. The ending is nail-bitingly suspenseful. Also, if you can, read the book by Michael Crichton.

Another is a low budget, but well made little film entitled Frailty (2001). After watching this, you may never automatically shake someone's hand again.

  12. I just finished How Green Was My Valley, this movie is fucking dildos. I can't believe Citizen Kane lost to it.

Perhaps you should research the subject. Citizen Kane lost in most categories.

  14. I went to see "Brave" tonight as it was amazing. The animation was very cute and the story was a nice change of pace. I have been tired of these princesses falling for a man and living happily ever after. In this movie there was no prince she wanted at all and no one fell in love. Instead it was mostly about how one girl refused to follow tradition because she wasn't going to be allowed to find her own love and be herself and be a strong woman instead of a measly wife. There is quite a bit more to it, but I don't want to spoil it.

Also, stay after the credits. This movie was also dedicated to Steve Jobs.

I know, and it was all a conspiracy by william randolph hearst because the movie was allegedly inspired on him. the oscars are always bullshit anyways, but when you stack citizen kane next to how green was my valley the bullshit level is just mind blowing.

    It Happened One Night

This is one of the only movies with Clark Gable in it that I can stand. I hate the guy and have as long as I've been a fan of old movies. However, this was a solid movie that I really did enjoy.

As for the Oscars, I don't think they're bullshit, but I certainly do hold different opinions sometimes. Like, I would have given the 1939 Best Picture award to Wuthering Heights or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington before Gone With the Wind. I just didn't care for the movie, whatsoever. It didn't help that Clark Gable was in that as well, but I just wasn't impressed as I thought I should have been with it. There are plenty of years similar.

Lastly, on the subject of Citizen Kane, I wouldn't have given it best picture of the year. I would have certainly gave it best cinematography and directing, but not best picture. The film outside of a technical standpoint, in my opinion, is considerably boring. I've seen it a number of times, but every time, I find myself more interested in how Welles and Toland completed or composed the shots they did and less about waiting the two hours to find out what Rosebud was... Story wise, the movie felt like a waste of my time. For that year, I would have given it to the Maltese Falcon or Suspicion. Likely the latter because I love Hitchcock and Cary Grant is my favorite actor of all time. So I'm probably a little biased there.

  20. Anyone has opinions on the movies in this list

    http://listverse.com/2012/06/30/top-10-movies-with-extraordinary-casts/

I've only seen Sweet Movie and Freaks, which are both interesting to say the least. Pink Flamingos is mentioned at the end, that movie had me laughing and saying wtf the entire time.
