It Happened One Night
This is one of the only movies with Clark Gable in it that I can stand. I hate the guy and have as long as I've been a fan of old movies. However, this was a solid movie that I really did enjoy.
As for the Oscars, I don't think they're bullshit, but I certainly do hold different opinions sometimes. Like, I would have given the 1939 Best Picture award to Wuthering Heights or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington before Gone With the Wind. I just didn't care for the movie, whatsoever. It didn't help that Clark Gable was in that as well, but I just wasn't impressed as I thought I should have been with it. There are plenty of years similar.
Lastly, on the subject of Citizen Kane, I wouldn't have given it best picture of the year. I would have certainly gave it best cinematography and directing, but not best picture. The film outside of a technical standpoint, in my opinion, is considerably boring. I've seen it a number of times, but every time, I find myself more interested in how Welles and Toland completed or composed the shots they did and less about waiting the two hours to find out what Rosebud was... Story wise, the movie felt like a waste of my time. For that year, I would have given it to the Maltese Falcon or Suspicion. Likely the latter because I love Hitchcock and Cary Grant is my favorite actor of all time. So I'm probably a little biased there.
