If you give Expendables 40%, it means you're not watching it for its own value. That movie is a masterpiece, for what it's meant to be.

I guess you missed my post. Either way, you're still being hypocritical; Drive was clearly not trying to be like The Transporter, and the fact you're reviewing it as such is stupid.

You should watch the average comment on RT. The site is entirely made of people who go to see movies expecting something else; I imagine a bunch of hipsters who like to pretend they know about cinema and read much more than it shows so they can debate on how deep the characterization is.The site itself is stupid and unreliable, considering how it gathers votes from just anyone.
You know what, I give up. It's not worth it.

I don't make decisions based on their average score anyway, and neither should anyone.

In that case, I read individual reviews by critics I trust.

"Hugo" scored 94% on rotten tomatoes, and that movie is beyond boring. The movie is only boring if you don't know about the life of George Melies or if you don't appreciate film history. To everyone who has put in their time learning about movies, Hugo was a beautiful treat.
If you want to know which movies you'd appreciate just watch the joke that we all refer to as, "The People's Choice Awards."

The part about the history of cinema is very cool. Too bad it's just the ending. It's as if everything else was forced and really, nothing happens for most of the time. The story doesn't go with the flow, it's as if instead of being a round wheel it was a hexagon or something like that. The colours are beautiful, the secondary scenes that introduce other characters are cool, but the film as a whole is boring, imo.
I sure prefer to watch a movie that doesn't require you any specific knowledge to appreciate it.
In my opinion all these sophisticated explanations are nothing but excuses to mask how in fact the movie just isn't good enough. There are countless other movies where NOTHING happens for 90 minutes, with just one single character, and they are still much more intriguing and fascinating than all these 'mainstream' releases, like... don't know, Moon. Moon is really exceptional.

I sure prefer to watch a movie that doesn't require you any specific knowledge to appreciate it.I can understand this. There have certainly been films that require some knowledge that I didn't have and it did distract me from the overall movie. However, with Hugo, I'm not trying to mask anything. I can truly say I wasn't bored and enjoyed every minute. I can definitely admit it was slow, but I'm a big fan of dramas, and they generally don't progress very fast. There is a lot of time spent on developments (character, plot, etc...). I think Hugo did a fine job at introducing characters, letting you get to know their character really well, and then progressing forward with how they'll develop and become an integral force of the plot. I also felt that they waited too long to introduce the George Melies is a film genius aspect, but when it came, I was so happy with it, that I wasn't really upset.
It's amazing how different taste can be. The movies that I consider to be cinematic gold could be to others, films that they'll never ever watch again.
I would be interested in knowing what people thought of The Artist. Now that the world has been swept away with amazing movie technology, it was amazing to see a black and white silent film roll in and make some noise.

I never base any decisions on reviews. It doesn't matter whether the movie received an overwhelming amount of negative or positive reviews because I prefer to use my own judgement when rating the movies I watch. This may be because I've never found a critic with similar tastes to mine, but then again, I've never tried to look. Either way, I try to ignore other persons' reviews, even those of my friends.
Of course sometimes I fail and form an opinion before I watch a movie, like Titanic, but I try.On a different note, I just saw Horrible Bosses, In Time, and War Horse in the last 24 hours. Horrible Bosses was hilarious. In Time was ok. And War Horse was a good drama, but the events were incredibly unrealistic.
I'm bored and don't have anything in particular on my watch list at the moment so if anyone has any suggestions I'll try to watch it next.
I don't mind films that are in black and white or musicals so anything is fine...Actually I don't feel like watch a silent film right now. I've only seen a few and haven't decided if I like them.Posted 12 months ago # -
spirit - checkout Tucker & Dale vs evil, if you haven't it's a comedy.

@Spirit, silent films are tough. It took me some suffering and forcing my way through them before I finally started to appreciate them. You just have to continue grinding until you find that "one" that sticks out.
As for other movies for you to watch...
Catch Me If You Can
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Into the Wild
Shawshank Redemption
Some Like it Hot
Casablanca
Walk the Line
Space Jam (best movie ever made)Posted 12 months ago # -

Very good, but it grew repetitive toward the end.

There have been plenty of movies that got good reviews that I didn't like, and vice versa.

that movie would be even better if Jordan had his sweet moustache.

haha. Probably. However, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Bill Murray, Danny Devito, Larry Bird, AND The Looney Tunes!?! That's some high level stuff!

Space Jam (best movie ever made)I've only seen Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which I didn't like because of the action scenes. They were silly, imo. I don't remember the movie honestly, except for that little part that totally ruined the experience for me. Or at least it's the only thing I remember. Oh well.
Into the Wild is a masterpiece, in my opinion. It made me cry a lot.
Some like it hot is really good, too. I've only seen it for the first time last year, but I was extremely pleased.
Lastly, Space Jam. Last time I saw it was years ago... I remember I enjoyed it, but nothing more than that <_<

Silent films seemed stupid to me until I saw "The Adventures of Prince Achmed," a weird 1926 animated film, and "The Freshman" with Harold Lloyd; both on TCM. After that I watched a bunch of silent films.

Space Jam (best movie ever made)Yea, I just saw my first two silent films in class during this last school semester. One was by Charlie Chaplin and the other was a soviet montage film which was very boring
(I'll try to look up the name later)It's called Man With a Movie Camera.I watched space jam with my family when I was little and thought it was one of the greatest movies ever. Then I watched it again recently, and realized that my tastes have changed. I still like it, but it's not as great as when I first watched it.
The only other movie on your list that I have seen is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. But I'm the same as Vegio when it comes to this movie. I don't remember it very well. All I can really recall is the action scenes. Of the plot, all I remember is some sword is stolen and a girl is kidnapped by a desert bandit. I should watch it again.
Okay, so my next movies are Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Catch Me If You Can, and Into the Wild. Thanks Trepiz and Chocobo.
