    Apparently the cheap bastards who made the commercials didn't want to shell out for a CGI Doreamon - but felt that the actor who did his voice had to be consistent with the other actors that did the other character voices. Which did save some time and money in production,
    and faciltated the comedic gags better.

    are you sure it isn't because the domestic mass transit system they have now is too effecient?

    in animu they're always taking a train. or trying to catch a ride with people with a car.
    When the quake hit a year ago, remember the news of masses of commuters being stranded in the city? You're not going to see this happening in California - the mass transit network isn't as good as the Japanese. And Californians love their cars too much. But if CA had a better transit system, I'm willing to give up driving in favor of riding the bus or train.
