Friends like you because of your personality.But love is difference, you need a foundation there in the first place. And most importantly, provided both like each other, not as friends but a lovers.
All I suggest is.. If both like each other, dun ever confess yet. Know the Birth Date Chart first, know what to avoid saying to prevent major mistakes. Avoid stepping on hidden mines.
But if already confessed, but turn out bad, then show the other half both Birth Date Chart, provided if s/he still has interest in you. Once, both understand why they turn out like these. Together overcome the problems in the future since both are suitable for future. Just need to overcome for now.
Unless both Birth Date chart are really bad in the first place or will maybe really bad in future: "Ideas match in the first place but after a few years, idea grew differently, no longer understand each other, not longer love each other" = Breakup/Divorce.

So let's say you've been together with someone for a while now, your already past that let's see where it goes stage and it develops into genuine love. Then you find out you're aren't compatible with each other. Would you drop him?

Yeah but it's just stupid if you really believe in it. If you're not compatible with each other you're gonna find out sooner or later anyway. But at least you gave it a try.
There will always be those hidden mines in a relationship. It really doesn't matter if you check beforehand or not. There's no love without hate after all.
I think it's just sad if you don't wanna give it a try with somebody just because something says that you aren't compatible.
