  10. Lolwut? My econ prof sent an email to the entire class telling people how it's not proper etiquette to call someone Mrs. I'm not sure if she's joking or serious.

Just some words on etiquette, especially for the international students. Please do not refer to women by the title "Mrs" unless you know for a fact that it is their preferred title of choice. I certainly would not use it for any of your professors, again unless they say that they use that title. Using "Ms" is a much much safer bet.

And yes, you probably guessed correctly, I absolutely do not use Mrs for myself..... Dr., Prof, Ms, but never Mrs!!

Make sure to always call her Mrs. from now on.

  12. That quote was from Charles Dickends, Vegio.

Also, I realised today that Trinidadians are better in Maths than English 'A'. I'm surprised.

Some especially feminist-minded women are bothered by the fact that the feminine title "Mrs." reveals a person's marital status while the male "Mr." does not. It's an inequality in privacy. I think this is also the reason the title of Ms. was invented.

But to call it improper etiquette is, well... you know... completely incorrect.

  14. Is it really a feminist thing? Does that mean it only bothers them when men do it?

Growing up, I'd normally refer to adult women and "Mrs." and younger women as "Miss" and if I made an error they just inform you.

It's not like feminists are never bothered by other women. I suppose when feminists see other women use Mrs. to address people, they still see this as a surpression of women's rights to privacy. Or--the other way around--a reinforcement of inequality between men and women.
