not at all. Toboys are girls with a boyish personality. (like a lot of sports girls in anime)
Reverse traps are girls that look like guys or in Ed's case kinda looks like either sex but has a boy's name leading you to believe the she is a he when in reality he is actually a she.
Tomboys are awesome, but really, you never really get to see much of them. most of the time, they change under the Tsundere character type, and end up throwing away their tomboyish traits. we rarely see a character evolve with their tomboy traits.
are you a new guy, mike? Or just someone who changed name and avatar? Answer me, pretty please. The doubt's gonna drive me nuts if you don't.

This thread made me realise i don't know what a tomboy is.
well they aren't exactly abundant in anime...
here are a few (I can't believe no one has said ritsu)
Some may disagree with this one but I feel she has a very masculine personality. And I'm not talking about how she loves to grope Asahina
Maybe we should turn this thread into a sophisticated discussion about what 2D tomboys actually are? What makes tomboy a tomboy? Take Haruka from White Album for instance; She's very quiet and often passive, yet has short hair and rarely wears girly clothing. Would she be considered a tomboy?

hmmm... you have a point. I'd say she just dresses like a tomboy. I think being a tomboy is more about the personality. Like maybe a character that's more assertive and the way they carry themselves is a bit more masculine.
Lol, Ed can be a tomboy, because she has male personality traits. That doesn't exclude the fact that she's a R-type trap.

i guess she does have some male traits but she's just too weird. Her weirdness covers up any sense of tomboyness she might have.
Ritsu Tainaka tends to not cross her legs, she can be boisterous, and occasionally bullies Mio with her own antics.

Dan said,.. reverse traps,..
Well they are that, and also look like dykes some of the time. Particularly the ones who are over 18. Sometimes if you're not observant enough - you might presume an androgynous looking boy might be a fem-boy or a stereotype gay boy. But could well be just a girl in guy's clothing that is trying to be masculine for fashion or fun, or because she is a dyke.
It does get complicated when you consider all the variables.
But if you don't mind the risk, you can always execute an accidental crotch grab and see for yourself.
Girls driving fast cars. Seriously if that doesn't turn you on, then something is wrong with you if you have a penis.
She was pretty awesome. I was pretty sad when her relationship with that guy that was friend's with takumi didn't work out.

You can say that again. I wanted to punch Keisuke when he dumped her. What an idiot!
The Tales series has a lot of tomboyish characters
