    FIRST OF ALL
I would like if you want to comment in this thread please do it in a respetful way , im not asking you to agree with everyone opinion but please avoid anything like copyrights sux fuk fuk fuk or similar.

Ok i will you my opinion about copyright in the field of computer programming related .

Personally ATM im still developing 2 game engines ( 1 i am already thinking in release it as open source but i will talk about that latter) the problem is that i really dislike things like copyright , it stoped since decades ago a way to protect your works to be misused or worse and now is way of how to fuck people or get more money , the irony is that if i release my product without "copyrights" it will be placed then as public domain and that means that if my products is really awesome a company can get the source , copyright it and then even sue me back because they became the owners of the source , now i will like to see your opinion about this kind of things

  2. personally I feel that only the holder of a patent or copyright has a right to make money off of their invention or material...
AND, if you want to make money off of someone else's work, you have to pay them a %...

However... if you're not planning to make any money off of it, then most bets are off.

probably a bit naïve to think like that, but eh, it's 3:30am.

  3. I try to buy the dvd when ever possible - buht, there are a number of series and cinematic releases that are not available in dvd.

Some series were never released in dvd.

A few movies did come out in VHS but - GAWD, who has a VHS player that doesn't eat tapes!!!????

I threw out my VHS to DVD recorder a year ago.

  5. now what do you mean by making money off of something? As far as I'm concerned "fair use" is too restrictive. If some one makes a song they sell CDs do live performances etc. so if some one wants to use a song for their movie or something, even if they want to make money off of it, shouldn't it be enough to give credit to the artist? They'll get more publicity from it, and they didn't have to put in any work. Or if I wanted to right my own novel based in the Star Wars universe why should I have to get permission? It's my own story. So what if it uses planets and maybe characters that someone else came up with or if it takes place during the clone wars or something? So If I do a painting of Chicago's skyline do i have to get permission of all the architects? Why is it that the film and music industry is the only ones that are so overly "protected"?

  6. US copyright law has become a joke.
It once was sensible with it lasting 14 years with the option to extend another 14 years but has been hijacked by corporate interests over the years.
1976 is the year it became truly fucked to the point other countries should have started ignoring it out of good taste.

Personally I think the terms need to be rolled back to the 1831 law and fair use rights expanded.
And for things that go out of vogue quickly like software and pop music the 1790 law.

The Bono act is esp stupid and every politician who voted yes on it should be made to eat a bucket of scorpions.

your comment have alittle overdose of hate/angry but i understand what you mean .
Also about the part of use a song in a movie either non-profit or for-profit you can use Creative Common licensed material as some of their versions allows you to use in this case songs in for-profit movies as long as you give credit to the artist and if you can link to his/her website

I have a lot of hate and anger to give when it comes to this ^.^

It just really bothers me how the government Is threatening to destroy the livelihood of tons of creative people on the internet. And for what? Because Hollywood has been making nothing but shitty movies during a global recession and can't sell tickets? grrr.... some one should just burn it all down. (looks over shoulder for homeland security) okay i don't think they heard that. >.>

I was actually - waiting - for a reply before removing the secondary posting... then deleting my own... this way we are all on the same sheet of music.

    anyway *fixed and edited

    On topic:

The issue of copyright, is similar to the situation that artists experience, when art theft is mentioned or declared.

    Now (imo and pov)...

Artists have been competing with each other for centuries, the Masters copied each other, used the similar styles, then argued over who's it really was.

Then fast-forward to the 1960/70's's with Andy Warhol and his use of material in repeated matter... what happened then?

Now (even now) let's say someone took a photo before me of a old stop sign, then I took the same photo, but with my camera... then they bitch because it was the same photo, but taken with a different camera...

Its not the camera their bitching about, rather, the picture because it looks the same.

Then comes the thought.. who owns what, see how ludricus the whole situation actually is?

This is why I don't accept full credence with (some) aspects of this whole situation..

Its comes down to - people seeking and wanting (attention) plain and simple.

Hollywood has been doing this for as long as they existed look at my chart.
They can't accept that someday their work will become public domain and they can no longer gold brick off it even though companies like Disney have made millions animating stories that are public domain.

I feel once someone has made money off something for a reasonable amount of time it should become the property of everyone so it can enrich culture as a whole.

This is the case with inventions and technological advancement would come to a stand still if individuals and companies had to deal with paying patent royalties on things invented a century ago.
The legal costs alone would sink all but the largest companies and products would be extremely expensive.
There would be no garage start ups like Apple or Google.

  14. Hmmm.... You see it's painfully obvious what the problem is. Everybody points out the problems constantly but there's never any solutions. whether its sopa or the economy there's always someone or someones that are at fault but there's nothing we can ever do about it.

I feel this picture is appropriate.
