What do you think of incredibly strong female characters?
A few examples would be Balsa, Lightning, Motoko, and so on. Highly intelligent and capable women who aren't there just to be cute stereotypes or sex objects. However, they are usually pretty hot.
Thoughts? Turn on or turn off? Not your thing but you see the appeal? And WHY?

There are actually a ton of strong, well - written female characters out there, especially in videogames. Yuna, Lightning, Ashelia B'Nargin Dalmasca, Elena Fisher, Chloe Sullivan, Miranda Lawson, Nariko.
The only problem is that the majority of people seem to operate under the trail of thought that, if a female character is attractive, she must automatically be a sex object regardless of personality, integrity or any other traits.
As for my thoughts on the subject, i'm all for strong female characters. Having a female lead who is actually a believable character helps with the storytelling.

I love strong female characters, though I actually don't watch a huge amount of anime, so the ones I think of are from books and films.
The author Richelle Mead always has a strong female lead in her books and I love them all. Also, I recently watched the English language remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Lisbeth Salander is an excellent strong female character.

A "strong" character doesn't have to mean physically strong, it can mean having mental strength as well. A well - written female character is one who serves a purpose for the story, she is there for a reason beyond being eye candy for the male lead/player. It doesn't mean she has to be a deformed bodybuilder or anything, having the mental resolve to face the challenges put in front of her would still qualify her as a "strong" lead character.
You should be looking past the number of times she got kidnapped and take a look at her actual story. Look at what she was willing to sacrifice to bring peace back to her homeland.
