The Works of Haruki Murakami

  1. Forgive me if a thread was already created in the distant past about this man's novels, but I've had unproductive experiences with reviving very old threads, since they are always immediately locked in spite of my worthwhile contributions.

So, I guess SPOILERS ABOUND in this thread, which I think I should say to prevent any hard feelings. I'm reading my first Murakami book, 1Q84 (pronounced 'ichi kyuu hachi yon', a homophone of '1984' in Japanese). Things like the late Showa period, parallel universes, lightly integrated fantasy, and the like really pulled me in. And of course, the fanboy in me appreciates the mention of creative writing, assassination, yuri experimentation, and (surprisingly!) paipan.

By the way, I'll just mention that I'm talking about the English translations of Murakami's books, in case that wasn't clear.

A basic - "search" - will reveal the following two threads which mention such topics....

    HERE and HERE

... and as far as the martyr (claim)...

This is - quite false - if - "this" - was/is/were the case ndeed, your threads, entries, and postings wouldn't even exist.

  5. Haven't read 1Q84 yet, my first Murakami book was Kafka on the Shore, discovered unintentionally while I was backpacking, many others followed after that...
