James Cameron, stole the story of Avatar

  1. James Cameron is an idea stealing thief ... who ripped the story for "Avatar" from a guy named Eric Ryder to make matters worst, the guy actually once worked at Cameron's production company... this according to a new lawsuit.

    According to the suit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Ryder claims his reps pitched the movie idea to Cameron's production company back in 1999 ... and it was so well received, they had multiple serious meetings with high ranking execs about the development of the project.

    But Ryder claims in 2002, the company officially shut down the project -- telling him, "No one would go see an environmentally themed feature length science fiction movie."

    So when "Avatar" hit theaters in 2009 ... and made bazillions ... Ryder was furious.

    In his suit, Ryder alleges he complained to Cameron's people in 2009 -- but when they finally got back to him earlier this year, they told him to kick rocks, claiming J.C. had written the story before 1999.

    Ryder says Cameron's people are lying -- claiming there are way too many similarities between the two projects -- including Ryder's idea for one of the characters to be played by Sigourney Weaver.

    Ryder is suing for unspecified damages -- probably a bloody fortune.

    Attempts to reach Cameron's people were unsuccessful.

  5. It was good but I didn't think it was deserving of the billions it made. Titanic was way better.

  7. I hadn't heard about this lawsuit before, but I'm not very surprised.

    I agree completely. It had a lot of cliches and parallels to other stories anyway, just with a sci-fi update. ^^;

    One thing I did find surprising in the movie was the very plausible design of ISV Venture Star which would work according to known physics.
    Clever use of both antimatter and solar/laser sail to allow enough delta V for high sublight speeds both ways along with a tractor configuration to keep the mass down.

    Probably the only piece of hard science fiction in the entire movie.

    The other parts such as having to strip mine the moon for the unobtainium ore needed for Earth technology at the time is very implausible.
    Said element would be present through out the star system maybe even within the sol system it's self.

    Did he say what material he stole to get the franchise signed on for 2 sequels?

    Well that's the one where he went right out and said it. There are other cases where it was discovered, but I forget what they are.
