  1. Anyways, tips for people with a finely-tuned nervous system, of which I am sure there are quite a number

    - Keep things predictable and calm as much as possible. Avoid high stress jobs/relationships/employers known to be unpredictable
    - Do not be a hikikomori. Being one is already depressing and self-esteem-blowing, imagine if you were highly sensitive too
    - Never compare yourself with others. Ever.
    - You've probably been told this many times. Don't take life or what others say/do too seriously. Humans are a fucking joke. Jokes are meant to be laughed at.
    - Keep healthy (applies to everyone, actually)

It's common because, like I pointed out 20% of people have them.
As to how long they have to have them, it's for life (not some phase you had when you were a wee kid)

According to that I'm not hyper sensitive as only six applied to me.
Heck I can tolerate strong chemical smells and I have a fairly high pain tolerance.

  5. Sheldon from TBBT is a classic example of Asperger's syndrome. Perhaps the best that has ever existed in the media.

If you ever talk to an asspie, be sure to remind him how similar he is to Sheldon; he'll appreciate it!

This thread is for the purpose of talking about Autism. Please post your opinions about Autism and the like and not let it leak out to other threads. Also, to get it out of your system:

And with that, no talking about Chris Chan after this point unless in a serious manner.

  14. I remember this one autistic girl;
she was nice but weird as hell since she always carried around this pray-mantis puppet - to gym, to school pictures, to the prom.

I tried asking her one day if she'd remove the puppet and she just gave me this demonizing look

Often avoid violent movies and TV shows to protect their finely tuned nervous system

This is the only criteria that doesn't fit in with me though.

Well i qualify by the test posted before and TBH i enjoy clutter and having a TV on. It helps me out by keeping me distracted. Basically if a rooms not cluttered i tend to obsess over the little details and get freaked out by all the space. Similar for lack of sound. Though when i'm sick i HATE sound in general.

Former your ass. I just haven't been around much. Between Amalur/Jak and Daxter HD, work, my new horribly insane doctor instructed diet, stress, that damn virus going around and other forums as well as having too many people to hang with(by my standards) i haven't had as much time. Plus i've mellowed a bit for some reason and don't post as much unless i feel i have something to say.

I've become at least for now a bit more like gantz and alot of others in that i check it out around here every so often and just don't post as much. TBH if i were to post all my purchases in the purchase thread it would be fucking insane at this point. One reason i haven't been posting in there.

But yeah i've been in a sort of recession from alot of internet socializing lately getting too much of it IRL especially with 3 girls to deal with now on top of gaining 2-3 more friends through work minus Bronwyn(the third girl i have met at work and seems to want to be friends) oh and why the hell do all the girls i know have celtic names AND have asbergers AND enjoy anime. but yeah been busy lately.

Just remember this. Once a sankakuan always a sankakuan.

Pretty much everyone agrees that i'm like a hybrid of sheldon and leonard. i have ALOT of sheldons OCD traits but my social skills are closer to leonards.

Yeah we will at least in some ways.

implying autistic people breed and pass on their genes.

Seriously? Mutations happen, not all of them survive. Just as an Albino may survive in Scandinavia that doesn't mean he'll survive in Africa.

In the same manner a nerd may be able to get all sorts of pussy in Asia, but in the US he just gets shoved in a locker.

Autism exists mainly in cultures with birth rates below replacement value anyway. So good luck making a species out of a subject that even if he does breed lives in an area with bad fertility.

Actually at least those of us with asbergers do perfectly fine socially amongst others who also have it. With normal people not so much however.

  19. Well I don't think autistic people are the next step of evolution. But if there are more evolved people among us, I kinda pity them. Even assuming they have superior intellect and skills, they are isolated and trapped as a subspecies within a slightly more primitive species.
Most of them may never know of the existence of others like them. They never fit into the normal world. They would have to forsake their own logic for the more inferior one of the masses in order to fit in. Despite having superior abilities, they will never be at the top, because as we well know, getting ahead in the world is not about what you know but who you know.
And they will not breed because they will be ronery. And we are not like ourselves back in the animal days where one can just fuck someone and reproduce via rape.

I wouldn't say that. If you take a minute to stalk his activity you'll actually see traces of intelligent points here and there, but for whatever reason 90% of his energy seems to be going into putting off others around him...

Silly creature~ I wonder what his motivations are. :3

QI tweeted an great quote from Einstein the other day, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree,it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid"

Offhandedly, I think I'll never tease fish again.
