  3. Antika. Are you doing photoshoots as a hobby or for a little bit of extra cash?
Either way, They turn out pretty cool. You should have made that guy wear a really long coat though. Gasmasks are aaaweesomee.

  4. The photos with Christian are actually his idea, so I didn't have a lot to say about those. I did have some request as of the poses. (I got a thing for hip bones so I made him pose like this:

But yeah I do get a bit of extra money in some photoshoots.
Let's see, a normal photoshoot without any make-up included would cost around 75$ (a 2 hours shoot, more or less. If it's more, then it would cost more for example during a wedding or a party).
For make-up it's another 75$ and that goes to my big sis who is a make-up artist.

    So those are the prices.

But Christian is my friend so that photoshoot was for free.

  5. There are a lot of really nice pictures posted here so far!

I enjoy photography but I've only dabbled in it. I get the feeling that if I could ever afford to spend money on a nice camera with manual settings I would probably work on it a lot more.

I've only ever had an auto-focus camera, just one of the ones you could find at Walmart or something. Despite that I've managed to take some pretty nice pictures. I enjoy macro photography the most so far. The pictures I'm posting are older but I figured that I'd share them anyway.

  7. I like photographing living things, they're fun to look at and generally more challenging to capture. I actually have a lot of various insect shots, though the above on was from the Santa Barbara Musuem of Natural History. There was a butterfly garden exhibit going on the day I happened to visit.

  13. Not a Pro! I picked up a DSLR in October of last year. I really spent a lot of time trying to improve. I'm also active on a Canon users forum, Photography on the Net. The people there are quite helpful, and know their stuff real well.

It would also be sweet to see what kind of gear people are using! As a gear nut, it's always fun to see what people are using :D

It was really nice shooting at Comiket. It was the first time that I got to shoot models who knew how to pose and how to shoot their attention to different parts of the photog gallery. I really was blessed with the opportunity to shoot the event. Didn't get to use my flash, since I didn't have an ND filter or a flash with High Speed Sync.

    I really appreciate the comments!

Here's one I recently finished again. I hope to see this thread more active! People value photography so much, but seem to settle with iPhone pictures. I'm glad to see a community of photogs here!

  14. Any tips for taking pictures of the moon with a point and shoot? (other than buy a DSLR) Is it even possible?

I've done it successfully on all of... one occasion, really. Tripod, or something to set it on is a must, set the timer for a few seconds because even the slight jostle of pushing the button is enough to bone the exposure and cause blurring so you want your hands off when it shoots, manually focus (if at all possible; some of the cheaper ones don't let you), stay the hell away from digital zoom. May need to play with exposure settings to get the proper light balance without turning it into a white ball.

It's gonna end up looking small and mostly bad but it's definitely possible. No flash and something to keep the camera still. Take the picture in a big size so you can cut it and make the impression of the moon being bigger 'cuz it'll look minimal on the photo.

The one pic I took of the moon was horrible. I need a better lens for it.
Here's the moon pic I took:

  17. I guess photographing the full moon is not such a great idea. At least I can take the stars. I might go to the mountains and see if I can capture the milky way.

  19. This was taken with my point and shoot camera (Canon SX10 IS). It has a super zoom (up to around 500mm 35mm equivalent). The original shot was not this good. I did some clarity, highlight, and shadow work in photoshop to bring out a lot of the detail. It can definitely be done though.

Stars are going to be harder than the moon. Depending on your focal length and your crop factor, you have a set amount of time you can expose before the stars move and you get that motion blur. Also, you need quite a high ISO to get successful shots (generally 1600-3200). Most point and shoots will go that high, but the noise will be terrible. Sometimes it's semi fixable, other times, not at all.

It really sucks when you want to shoot specific things, but your camera is really holding you back. I want to do more astro stuff, but my D80 just can't handle the ISO I need.
