I did 25 body weight squats today. I lost my balance and fell back once...

Hey, not bad! I usually get a solid chair when I do those so I have something to grab toward the end.

Wait, what? You speak of ordinary kniebeugen, right?
I do easily 40/min, what is so praiseworthy of 25?
And for what purpose do 1 needs a chair?
    Confused I am.

First of all, if you can do a full one-legged squat with no support the right way 40 times, that's great! You might want to try holding weights if power training is your goal.

However, one-legged squats are pretty tough if you're not used to them and not everyone has your body type, weight, or sense of balance.

The chair is for when you are supremely tired, shaking, losing your balance but you want some support to keep going. Similar to a spotter when doing a bench press, it helps you even when you don't have the strength left so that you can eventually surpass your limits in the future.

Even if I consider your average weigh of a American, and I only weigh 42.5% of that, is still laughable.

  5. American men = 196 pounds (89 KG)
    American women = 156 pounds (71 kg)

    Almost accurate, kudi. Almost.

Our men are about 6 kilos heaver, but also like and inch taller, so it all balances out or something. Plus we've got more black guys than you so, I'm sure a good part of the difference is dick weight.

Power training I? No, never. And the only weights I'll hold are beer bottles.

    That's for sure. ~_^

  8. I really need to get around to weightlifting. Although I might just by a bar thingy so I can do pull up at home or something.

I personally just go to a park nearby to do pull-ups when I don't want to go all the way to the gym. Have to go in the morning so I don't startle people, though.

They are a great way to build up a lot of different muscles depending on how wide you do them and which grip you use.

Question to those who take protein shakes (or simply have a cheeseburger for their protein): do you take it before or after your workout?

It doesn't matter; if anyone tells you it does matter, kick them in the balls.

  12. Won't it give you cramps if you have it before?

Protein shakes are generally recommended to be taken after a workout. Take a look at most packages and they will instruct you to do so.

  16. Nutritional supplements say a lot of things on the packages. Very few of them are true. Usually some study has been done on castrated mice who have been strapped to a bed all their lives and who gained 1% more muscle after following a certain protocol when compared to control mice, and the results of this study are extrapolated onto human trainees.

I think the only "truth" in the claim that they should be drunk after workouts lies in the fact that they taste like shit and it might only be possible to consume them when you're tired and thirsty.

  17. This site gave some insight into timing and states that the window of opportunity to help with workout recovery is actually much larger.

Apparently, overall protein intake and good nutrition is more important for the average person.

    yes

If you look at history's best lifters, most of them don't seem to care about "anabolic windows" and such. They just eat their protein.

  19. Kudi's swallowed a lot of protein in his life.

  20. Yesterday I threw out my back doing 105 on deadlifts. It's not because the weight was too much, my form was just shit. To make it worse I fucked up right after a guy gave me tips.
