New Company to Export Anime, Other Content Overseas

  1. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-08-15/new-company-to-export-anime-other-content-overseas

Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), a joint investment fund between the Japanese government and the private sector, announced on Monday that it will establish a new company to handle the overseas planning and development of anime, films, and other Japanese content.

The All Nippon Entertainment Works will be established this October with 6 billion yen (about US$80 million), 100% of which will be invested by INCJ. The new company will have offices in Tokyo and Los Angeles, and one of its specific goals will be to attract interest for adapting Japanese content into films in Hollywood. According to the INCJ, "experts with the proven track record and hands-on expertise in both Hollywood and the Japanese contents community will be brought on board."

The collaborating partners include the anime studio Production I.G, the production companies Asmik-Ace Entertainment and Nikkatsu, the advertising agency Dentsu, the television broadcasters Fuji TV and TBS, the conglomerate Mitsubishi, the film company TOHO-Towa, and the toy maker Tomy. The Japanese government expects more partners to join.

this is good they put some effort into exporting anime and probably make sooner English releases but this line: "and one of its specific goals will be to attract interest for adapting Japanese content into films in Hollywood." - I'm not happy about this, seeing more raped anime by Hollywood

Oh god no, Hollywood 3DPDs playing the role of 2D girls... oh the humanity!!

Just imagine the carnage, your waifu (if you have any that is from an eroge as I have 2) being played by a Hollywood 3DPD and turned her into a complete slut, ruining the character herself and not to mention that it is a school setting, they would turn it into a freaking romantic teen-flick movie.

Also expect that a Hollywood adaptation will be butchered will "Political Correctness" stuff.

That's not to far fetched. Fate/Stay night was originally a eroge and it would make a great live action film or series if its gone right.

On the subject, the one thing that always scares me about anime becoming mainstream is that stupid and ignorant people will start demanding anime/manga to be more censored. Conservatives will want the sexuality and nudity to be censored and the Liberals will want the violence and racial stuff to be censored.
    Both parties equally suck ballz.

    noe

if you want uncensored, you will still need to get a agent to buy what your want and attempt to send it to you. Because of certain retrictions in current laws.
    &
Heaven help you if you get caught.

LOL agreed. I these days summarize the US political status/direction as one being after a nanny state(dems) and one after a police state(republicans) while both achieving segments of their goals and landing us eventually in a hybrid of the two.

And yeah if it becomes really mainstream welcome to hell for us.

    Los angeles...
    It's always america. Bah
Hope for you they'll do a good adaptation job. I still prefer subs, meaning if they buy it here I usually rage. Still, seeing an effort from japan to spread anime culture makes me jelly

Saturday Morning Cartoon Boom in the 90's made it happen even when DBZ and Sailor Moon was a hit with the kids. They never bother to risk selling anime titles like Gundam ZZ for example because out fear that the Chinese would bootleg every selected title to release to the US or Canada.
