Does anybody stay away from manga?

  1. I used to buy manga but I find it to be a waste of money since I usually watch it once and never touch it again. However, the collector in my sees the fun in having lots of lots of manga. So are there people who don't buy manga for the same reason?

  2. I think most people tend to read manga online for those reasons. People do tend to collect their favorite series though. ^0^

It's exactly like what Mato said. Although I prefer downloading manga rather than reading it online. I do indeed buy hardcopies of my favourite manga.

  4. I keep forgetting about reading manga online. I've also see these 3-in-1 collections of manga in stores.

  5. I buy the ones available and read the others on the net.

  6. I'm crazy about Doraemon, GTO and Psychometrer Eiji that I own entire volumes of hard copies for each series. Started collecting them since elementary until college graduation.

I would seriously buy the whole volumes for these series too if my country isn't so much of a bigot on fictional entertainment materials.

    - Ah! Megami Sama(distribution canned at volume 14 because it has 'Gods')
    - Tenshi Na Konamaiki(distribution canned at vol. 6 because it 'glorifies black magic')
    - Unbalance x Unbalance(canned for obvious reasons...)

The only way left is to buy the expensive original Japanese copies or English versions, which sucks because I find it more immersive to read them in my own mother tongue(we had decent translators especially for Ah! Megami Sama).

  7. You can rent comics in Japan now. Not a bad deal for about 30 yen (40 cents) a volume for a week.

They still don't offer video games for rent, however.

  8. I re-read my manga so many times, so imo, they're worth it.

And just as Mato and Nin said. dl manga, buy the faves.

I won't be able to buy manga for a while since I just bought a computer. Though I prefer buying or renting from the library.

  12. I had such a small room at my folks that i only had space for one manga series (lots of dvds though). So i tend not to buy any now. I just watch the series' online or buy the boxsets if its a fave and under 40eps.

And incase your curious, it was battle royale volumes i owned.. of which im sure my mother thought they were porn as a result of some of the cover art..

I do not read much of it online these days but thats mainly because i have no idea where to start. So if it is not on animecrazy.net, i dont catch it. Just working my way through that site. I know, im a novice and terribly under educated in such things.

  14. I buy manga I truely like; one piece, case closed, etc
but because they tone down the manga in comparison to the original Japanese version it just doesn't feel the same.

  15. I import manga from Japan which means I'm always broke. I just can't stand the crap translations, censorship and quality that US publishers push on readers.

Only manga I have in English is Beserk because Dark Horse does a decent job on it.

Those 3in1 volumes are to bolster sales because people aren't buying the individual volumes.

Manga is quite peculiar ain't it. In Japan, anime is more expensive, manga is cheaper. In America, manga is more expensive, anime is cheaper.

I don't buy that much manga, but I wish I did. I love manga in paper form. I can't stand to read manga on a screen too much. It's just so gosh darn expensive.

If regular manga prices went down to $5~(close to prices in Japan), then I'd be collecting like crazy. If it went down to $3, I'd be stockpiling manga I would never read.

I buy a lot of Japanese manga from Bookoff because it's cheap.

Yeah if it was Japan prices I buy 20 volumes a week.
