  1. Feminism seems to be quite a common and popular topic on this site including forums, so I thought I would make a general thread for discussion on the matter.

ITT: We talk about and post links and discuss and all issue that matter with and hold relevance to the issue of feminism and or Gender.

I'll start off with this link.
    http://afeministtheorydictionary.wordpress.com/2007/07/17/long-hair/
This feminist site defines both the norm for both women to have long hair, and men to have short hair as a "patriarchal" thing. This word is commonly used within feminism, and stands for "man controlled society" basically. Not necessarily saying "all men are oppressing us and all men are evil" and things like that, but that these traditions are male supremacist and male created.

The article implies that both men and women should be free from these gender roles.

The article praises the flappers in the 20s for not conforming to this norm and being unapologetic short haired women. And praised the hippies in the 60s for being unapologetic short haired men. And calls the norms themselves "foolish" and still existent as a problem, though lessened due to groups like flappers and hippies.

The seeking to obliterate this norm by feminists does not mean that their desire for women to ever wear long hair now or again, or men to never wear short hair again. But that the norm itself of men having short hair and women having long hair should go away, and long and short hair being considered no different on either men or women. And that such a thing should be brought about through defiance.

Now, you go ahead and add your own feminist related links and discussion, or respond to my already provided link and discussion.

  3. During the time of Jesus all of the Jews looked like hippies and those Jews were one of the worst patriarchal cultures. Her argument is horse shit.

  4. The more I look back on my life, the more I can see instances of me being gay since birth. This is mixed in with a lot of instances of gender confusion, something I still have a bit of even today. I used to want to get a sex change until about the age I hit puberty because all the cool people in the books and stuff I read were guys. I wanted to be a knight (so much that I carried a plastic sword with me practically everywhere) but thought that was only a boy's job so the sex change sounded awesome. I thought maybe the girls I liked would only go for me if I was a boy.

As I grew older, I'm really glad I learned that it's okay to break gender roles and like people of the same gender. There are times though I really wish I could be a guy, even just for a day. I even have designs locked away of a male version of myself.

I really like tearing down the walls of what is socially acceptable for genders to be and do. Personally I think anyone can be whatever they want, but that's not what society sees, so I'm happy to help. I know I am attracted to girls and enjoy being a girl, but inside I am most definitely a guy and the world should know that's perfectly alright to be.

Maybe this explains my fascination with futanari, despite being gay.

I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore in this post. In the end, I am a person of contrast.

Another post from you that looks like a complete joke.:/

    In what way?
Whatever the Jews then looked like, they were indeed patriarchal and misogynist. But that doesn't say anything contrary to the idea of hair length and gender roles in gender are patriarchal in origin. Also, a lot of the cultural origins in Western culture that feminists trace "Western Patriarchy" and "Western Misogyny" to are the Victorian period.

The Bible actually describes men as having long hair as shameful, while saying women should wear their hair long.

  6. I really wished we could just move on... There's just too much ignorant hate on feminism as a whole here. Thankfully, there has been no more articles filled with hate on feminists/feminism as of recently.

So, I'll just do my part: Feminism aims for the equality of men and women. Not female supremacism. The majority of feminists are not pro-censorship. Feminism is not a single ideology, it is a portmanteau for movements of all kinds of ideologies fighting for what they believe to be the best for the well-being of women. It does not hate males. Feminism implies equality, there's no need for "equalism". Etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex-positive_feminism - Real Feminism, not distorted feminism by morals or whatever (sex-negative feminists don't even realize they are a byproduct of a male-dominated society).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism - History of Feminism and its subset movements.

I used to think that Feminism should have a biological basis, some years ago. But since then, I have seen that the individual aspects outweights the biological ones. Individuals are individuals and they should be free to do as they please, as long it doesn't harms the freedom of another individual. There is no point grouping people and expecting them to act accordingly to that group's supposed roles. Anyone disagreeing with that would have to agree that men have to work, and can't stay at home taking care of the children, if they want. Sounds absurd to me. The individual aspect is more important than the supposed biological roles (greatly scientifically discredited nowadays, anyway). People should be free to be as they want.

No, it doesn't. Don't you remember the story of Samson. He lost all of his might when his long hair was cut since God abandoned him.

One story. Which contradicts the Judeo-Christian culture as a whole.

1 Corinthians is from the New Testament and not the Jew Testament thus it is irrelevant to what I am talking about and came after Jesus. All evidence points to Jesus and other Jewish men of the time having long beards and long hair. The author Paul though Jewish was an "apostle to the gentiles" so he said things the gentiles would agree with and thus help bring in more converts.

Ukonkivi doesn't seem to know much about "Judeo-Christian culture as a whole."

  12. Even Judeo-Christian culture is a misnomer since there isn't even one unifying culture among all of the sects and denominations, and the various Jewish and Christian cultures that have existed through out history.

  13. 1 Corinthians is from the New Testament and not the Jew Testament

    Still interrelated.
I don't see how the one case of Samson is enough to prove that the Jewish culture as a whole accepted long hair.

thus it is irrelevant to what I am talking about and came after Jesus.

Then you're saying that the New Testament is non-acceptant of Jesus in some form of fashion.

What, the single of story Samson? Not at all.

I rest my case!- lol. Actually You can be a Guy online! No really, try it. I did an experiment in 2002 for a college class where I said a bunch things that were 'negative' or combative to alternative lifestyles on popular TV show forum (3 of them actually) for a week. Then I went back a month later and said the same stuff - except I did it as a Female ID. I gave her name, a fake history, fake college activities and proceeded to say ALL the same stuff I did earlier...I was allowed to get away with 'murder' (Metaphorically!)- people would let me do and say anything as long as they thought I was Hot & a Chick! I modeled myself as a Hybrid of Cordelia Chase ("Buffy") and Avril Lavigne. I was soo good at it. I had guys willing to 'attack other membes' for my affections and Lezbo gals hitting on me!...I had totally conviced atleast 500 people I was 'This Girl'...to this day people still remember her (even thou I revealed at the end I was a Guy and doing an experiment!)- people thought 'she' was lying about being a Guy!

Shit, I could be a chick now!- lol I could be Mimi? I could be a class full of Psychology kids using this 'Gantz' ID for shits & Giggles- lol.

You wanna be a Dude?...try it online! It's far easier than you realize. if I can convince people I'm a women you can convince people you're a dude!...You already like Chicks like we do! People who know about this experiment still ask me about my "Female Id" as a Joke. I still use her in Anime chat rooms to mock voice actresses and get them to reveal they hate Conservatives & Fox News. No One ever sees it coming if they think it's a chick.

Not every single group in the Torah or New Testament Judeo-Christian culture was equally sexist or believed in the same gender roles. Just like there are many patriarchal values within the Greco-Roman culture, but there was the Labrys.

However, the idea of the gender role of men having short hair and women having long hair is a Western Patriarchal value.

And the nonacceptance of long hair in men in Western culture is largely influenced by Judeo-Christianity.

I am actually a supporter of the "Mother/Father" God archetype. As in a Goddess co-ruler. I like the Isis and a strong wise Maternal loving mother God. For only she realizes what Men's hearts are truly made of how magical and pretty they see women that they fall in love with.

Short hair and a shaved face comes from Roman culture. Though in the West during the middle ages, renaissance, and even into the age of enlightenment men had long hair.
