Words of Wisdom

  1. Copypasta here, because I'm fucking proud of this!

Anyway a little tidbit on the history of heroin:
Heroin was the first designer drug. Morphine was first isolated in 1804, but only got popular in the american civil war. After 30 years of popularity, it got banned in a lot of countries. After that Bayer, using the same method as with aspirin(anhydrous acetic acid+salicylic acid+pressure), made heroin. It was marketed as a non-addictive substitute for morphine, but the molecule was only different from morphine in that the two -OH group(3- and 6-positions) got one-one acetyl substitute for the H atom. Heroin was usually taken orally and with that route of administration, it got quickly metabolized into morphine(O-deacetylation, same as 4-AcO-DMT), so it was basically morphine. When injected/smoked/snorted mainly the acetyl in the 3-position is deacetylated and the result is 6-monoacetylmorphine(6-MAM). The difference between morphine and 6-MAM is that it crosses the blood-brain barrier more quickly, so it gives a quicker, more powerful high.

Opiates have surprisingly few side-effects, the main ones are very strong addiction, small therapeutic window(ratio of effective dose and lethal dose), high tolerance and the most interesting IMO is the weakening of the immune system(this is why more heroin user have AIDS, than meth users). The last one is because morphine and 6-MAM are actually produced by your own body and they have a role in immunomodulation.

Pic is a heroin molecule(upper acetyl is the one in the 3-position).

  2. Are you researching stuff because you're going to tell about your drug experiences at some school? "And that children, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack!"

No, I want to work as a researcher in molecular neurology. If you star reading research papers early, you get a head start.

  4. Oh i get it. In case the cops arrest you, tell them you're doing drugs because you're a researcher on that subject. Does that even work?

While me liking to get high and being an incurable hedonist are closely intertwined with my interest in neurology, using hallucinogens is actually the "processing information" part, not the "I only get my info from that".
Also, I don't like opiates and I only used cocaine once and found it mildly entertaining, but not something that worth the price.

  7. I can't believe I never wrote my life's mantra in here. I'm not sure where it comes from; I think it's an old Indian saying.

"Everything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end!"

This quote has kept me hopeful and stupidly persistent when the world has told me to give up. It always gives me strength when I feel all is lost, and it reminds me if things aren't how I want them, it's either poor timing, or I'm just not working hard enough. If it's timing, then I'm patient until things improve on their own. If it's lack of effort, then I do whatever it takes to prove everyone else wrong. I can't tell you how many times this simple phrase has saved me.

No, because I don't come up with my own quotes. Also I'm always an exception to these kinds of things.
