...How so? I could understand how constantly talking about the Type A/Type B divide could be obnoxious, but people are naturally going to have preferences to certain things. It's very rare that there is an equal amount of like, there is usually a preference for one or the other, no matter how slight.
Despite calling myself Type B, I don't find it impossible to like Type A material (as in Plot-Driven Fiction), but I hold the general preference to Character-Driven Fiction, so therefore I call myself Type B. Just because I have a preference, doesn't mean I think what I don't prefer is horrible, or is beyond my respect. It's simply indicative of the kind of fiction I prefer to consume and how I judge what I watch to be good or bad to a certain extent.
Sure, talking as if Type A and Type B fans are irreconcilable is obnoxious and annoying, but I think the differences can be an interesting, and deserving, subject of discussion.

I hate the Type A/Type B stupidity.Same.
Most of the times I see people mention being a Type A or Type B otaku is when they want to feel superior to the other type (and it's usually the Type A otaku who do this, from what I've seen).
I wouldn't mind it if this Type A/B stuff was just used as a way to describe the content of an anime, but more often than not, it's used to look down on anyone who likes a Type A/B anime.

I prefer to refer it as that way...
we can't help but love something cute...
It's our nature, most type A otaku have problem is when Type B get more attention and sales than Type A...Which is not surprising thing, consider it happened on Hollywood stuff as well. Gotta let it slide, relax on the pointless argument, and enjoy.

Hm. Didn't know there was so much resistance to these terms.
Well to be honest, the usual definition of Type B being anything Moe and involving cute girls whilst Type A being "Serious/Dark/Mature" works really serves only to divide people and create animosity. It's why I prefer to see the Type A/Type B divide as the divide between Plot Driven and Character Driven works, as they are far broader (and therefore can be more inclusive) and it serves as a better springboard for discussion than how the terms are normally thrown around.
Personally I have no problem with the terms as long as they are not used in an "Us vs Them" mentality

Why do we need, or even want terms for them in the first place? Why can't you just say "I prefer characters over story," if the debate every comes up? As soon as you create a name for something, you compartmentalize it, and it only serves to dehumanize the opinion. It's no longer what you feel; you're forced to automatically assign your view to a stereotype. That's the main reason why I fucking despise TVTropes and literally consider it one of the worst sites on the Internet.

I have to agree with Mr. Perfect (on this one)...Through the years of watching anime, I never considered placing (any) terminology for what I have watched, if I like it - "I LIKE IT" - if - "I HATE IT" - I do so...
Like you yourself stated:

But whatever. I like what I like, and I just happen to have a great preference for characters, and an extreme soft spot for Moe.

I watched the first episode of yuru yuri s2. The starting joke was way too long and stupid. Though I liked the rest of the episode.

What happened to the simple times when you could go 3 episodes without seeing her face and not even notice her lack of presence?
