Goddamn! You had me scared when I read this post!

I highly doubt she is going to die, it would be out of character for this series. Toki is however completely incapasitated for the finals more or less and functionally out of the picture because of that. Truly, Toki pushed herself to her absolute limits for the sake of her team (and more specifically Ryuuka and Sera), and she has only made me love her and the girls of Senriyama even more.

Hey, I was scared myself when the ambulace took her away. Poor Toki.

    >Toki is however completely incapasitated for the finals

Like there's any chance Senriyama is going to the finals.
Only two teams can advance, there's no way Shiraitodai's going to lose and Achiga are the MCs after all so...

Concerning Kuro, she finally did what I thought she would have to do in order to win a hand, she had to ditch her gimicky playstyle and discard a Dora. Unfortunately, it was too little too late. Achiga is still in 3rd place and they haven't even managed to crack 90K yet, whilst Shiraitodai is nearly 100K above even the second place, Senriyama. Her last win was dramatic and did take Teru by surprise (which is no small feat) but the only real purpose it served was to raise Kuro's spirits. Also Shizuno, Ako and Kuro got to see Nodoka after the battle which they do deserve after that thrashing.

Concerning Kuro, she's still useless as always.
She won one hand during the entire match, against Teru no less so congratulations but only because Toki sacrificed herself to set her up for the win. The only thing Kuro did was discard that dora which Teru wasn't expecting at all.
And she still lost more points than she gained anyway.

    VillainousHanacha said:

But beyond that, my sympathies have now completely shifted from Achiga to Senriyama. Sure Kuro got bent over the table and took it from behind thanks to Teru, but at least she is still able-bodied and in good health. Toki maintained 2nd place (a distant 2nd, but still) at the cost of her health and while I doubt she will die, her fate is admitedly uncertain. And now her team's morale has been shot in the foot due to her being rushed to the hospital. Because of all that, I'm now completely rooting for Senriyama, hoping that their downed morale doesn't cause them to fail miserably. Hell I even have some good will for Shindouji, as even though Hanada knew it was a hopeless fight against Teru, she never gave up.

I don't think it's any secret that I kept on watching the show because of the side characters. I just didn't think I'd grow to love them this much, especially Toki.

I was rooting for Senriyama from the very beginning.
Achiga are the losers that don't even deserve to be there but unfortunately we're stuck with them as the main characters so, oh well.

And side characters are easily the best thing in this series.
Toki was awesome, definitely my favorite character from Episode of Side-A.

This season looks much more promising to me that the last one did, to be honest. Spring was a real disappointment.

Has anyone else even mentioned this show? Is it significant that it was listed as having 26 episodes before, but seems to have ended at 13 instead?

Hiiro no kakera is really boring. I dragged myself to watch the whole 4 episodes. Its just... not much development and I personally find the female protagonist to be boring and just a generic damsel in distress.
Well, I don't know if you'll think the same way, I've started to hate most female protagonists that are really weak who can't fight for them self or are too nice and don't stand up for them self.

Anyway's the latest anime I have watched was Arcana Famiglia. I loved it!
I really like the female protagonist in this, she doesn't seem to be that whiny or annoying. And she can fight too.
    And gosh, so many bishies~

  4. Ok, I'll respond for the first time in a forum on SanCom here. I've been watching several anime as of late.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (Episode 01): Despite the bright pastel colors, this anime is quite surreal and dark. In fact the the setting is post-apocalyptic and not in a way you'd normally expect. See humanity isn't declining by "dying off", we're losing our moral compass. For example there was a funny bit when the silent assistant's camcorder made a gunshot sound effect. Why would a camera need sound effects? To let the other person know that you're snaping candid or naughty shots of them of course! Little things like that really bring forth some striking social commentary. For that, I'm really digging this anime. The fairies perma-:D face creeps me the fuck out though...

More insight I found from a poster at MAL:

Within 23 minutes, this AMAZING show actually made fun of our very current system of humanity:

    1. The separation of human from the true source of their food: pretty ladies, including the main character, had ZERO idea on how live chicken turn into chicken-on-a-plate. I personally have met countless people who doesn't even know how to gut a fish, and find it 'disgusting' to do even the simplest food preparation.

    2. People who thinks going vegetarian / vegan gives them moral high ground. Pretty chicken-eating girls refuse the idea of killing a chicken. Oh I'm so morally high. Haven't you met in real life those who switch around "I'm going vegan" and "I'm going veggie" and "I eat meat now" within a few months, just because it is hip / politically correct.

    3. The problem with the so called 'democratic' meeting. Men spend HOURS debating just for the sake of debating. This happens a LOT in the Japanese Parliament.... Oh wait, it happens in our US Congress too, I guess? =P

    4. The main character ain't exempt from the weakness of mankind. The MAIN character displayed her DARK SIDE during and after the Chase-the-chicken incident. To cover up her mistake, she LIED in plain sight about receiving UNCC messages. In her OWN words: Hiding the Truth, Manipulative information, Intimidation.

    5. People who have NO SHAME at all to admit their failure to honor their duty. The receptionist in the factory had NO idea what he's talking about. He is all like "I get money, I don't care, it just my job". I am SURE you've met someone like that in your society.

    6. The camera picture sound effect. Do you know WHY we have sound effects when cell phones take pictures? It is to prevent people from taking upskirt pictures in crowded subways. High tech, low moral. VERY human.

    7. Twisted Advertising techniques. Have you been to the Hershey Chocolate Factory in PA and go to their tour? IT IS CREEPY, because they WANT YOU TO REMEMBER IT.

    8. The artificially synthesized carrot bread. It is aimed at children who don't like carrots. It's like our "Diet Coke", people are so demanding and addicted to get the taste they want, but don't even want ANY compromise. They want it SO BAD they are willing to ingest artificial crap and call it food / drink.

ALL THESE in 23 MINUTES. THIS SHOW IS A MASTERPIECE

-La storia della Arcana Famiglia- (Episode 01): A fujoshi otome game adaptation that's actually somewhat decent? Yeah, it's rife with cliched bishies and a set up that's older than dirt. Yes, it is female wish-fulfillment. Yup, it's Chiaki Kon and JC Staff at work here. But dammit this show has the best lead female character I've ever seen in one of these things! Felicita is a grade S (that's right S) Zettai Ryouiki. Showcasing that a pinch of tsundere personality with long luscious twin-tails and a slightly kickass demeanor can go a long way. Usually female leads in reverse harems are just about as empty as their male counterparts, but Felicita, nah. She's spicy and I like it that way. Plus there is some goofy action. I can't say that I'm completely sold yet, however I'm so far intrigued. The Arcana powers are a nice touch, reminded me of Persona.

Ashita No Nadja (Episode 35): I know that no one knows about this series, but I'll just mention it anyway. This anime is notable because it has a character that won a Saimoe tournament, shares the same character designer as Samurai Champloo, along with having the same director of notable anime such as Soul Eater, Ouran High School Host Club, and Star Driver. (Even the legendary Mamoru Hosoda directed an episode, which was quite brilliant I might add.) All of these elements made me want to check out this series as I've also heard some positive praise and I'm so glad I did. Up to this point the series has been largely episodic, filled with little character arcs to make all of the one-off (or side) characters that Nadja meets on her quest to find her mother throughout Europe interesting. Nadja herself is a cute, plucky protagonist that carries the show with ease. She's not perfect though, as her childhood naivety often leads her to not properly understand adult issues or worse, get easily manipulated. So at this point without spoiling anything, the story has taken the forefront while becoming surprisingly dark at the same time. I'm completely hooked! I can't turn away from the unadulterated Shoujo goodness! Every little reveal and plot twist keeps the story really engaging. I can't wait to reach the finale.

    Well this is unexpected...

That sounded like some interesting commentary from Jinrui, I can't really comment on it as I haven't watched it myself. However, I don't remember you yourself being the greatest eater Kwame, and can you gut a fish as well? I never asked :P

I will admit that I stayed away from Arcana Famiglia out of concern for it's Otome game origins, but maybe I should give it a try.

And people here do know about Ashita no Nadja. Not me of course as that would be unfathomable, but there are definitely others who would know about it.

Welcome to the fold, Kwame of the Kobuns. I do hope you enjoy your stay ^_^

  6. Saki - Y'know, there are only a few more episodes. I hope they don't just breeze by the rest of Shiraitodai's players. I'd like to see the rest of Shiraitodai's team get some recognition as the top players in the nationals.

Anyway, overall, I really liked the spring season.

Anyway, overall, I really liked the spring season.

Considering the show's history of breezing through most of the matches, I don't think any member of Shiraitodai besides Teru will get any focus. Most matches in Achiga-hen were skipped through and written off as being "unimportant" (the most egregious example was in the Nara prefectural qualifiers against Bansei, who up to that point were described as a wall against Achiga's entry in the Nationals for years on end, only to be taken out back and shot in a dark alley by Achiga off screen.)

One of the problems with Achiga-hen was that they gave the actual matches little focus, and this was basically the rule until Senriyama and Shiraitodai (or should I say, Toki and Teru) started having their matches (this also ties into the idea that Achiga-hen made the side characters more interesting, gave them more sceentime and development, and made them in many cases more sympathetic than the actual main cast, but I have already addressed this many times).

To be honest, I would like the rest of Shiraitodai to be shown as top players as well, even if Teru is the real power of their team. If this was the previous Anime, I wouldn't have doubted the idea that the rest of Shiraitodai would be shown as no pushovers and top players in their own right, but this is Achiga-hen, which has put all focus on just a few characters. I kinda get the feeling that Shiraitodai's team might be just get the nickname "Teru & Friends" and that they might be treated little better than speed bumps. I hope however, that I am proven wrong.

As for the whole of the Spring season, I did think it was a pretty strong one. Most of what I decided to watch I liked quite a bit, including Jormungand, AKB0048, Acchi Kocchi, Lupin III, Nyaruko-san, and Hyouka. Upotte!! was also a pretty good show, even if it gave me some pretty severe mood whiplash at times. F/Z was a beautiful show to look at and had some excellent fight scenes, I just can't get over my dislike of Kiritsugu (this is probably why I enjoyed it's first half more, as he was less present there). Accel World is questionable, it has an out of place looking Protagonist who is an audience avatar of the worst kind (the "fuck you viewer" type) as well as being absurdly angsty and reminding me a little too much of Shu. But it looks nice, has cool side characters, and it has some pretty nice action at times so I still found it entertaining. Achiga-hen mostly fell flat for me except for a few elements, and Shining Hearts fell flat for me in almost every aspect except for having good looking bishoujo to oogle.

There was far more that I liked than what I disliked, so I would say that I liked the Spring season.

  12. Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita was certainly something else. As many have already mentioned, it's kind of hard to pinpoint what it's trying to achieve other than spreading a political and economical message.

What I found most distracting was that modern society has collapsed and people have reverted back to living in old style homes without any signs of electricity or modern conveniences, yet have cameras and camcorders and exist alongside a corporation filled with cutting edge technology? I know it was mentioned that Fairies had supernatural technology, you'd think despite society collapsing, people would still have access to the modern conveniences they've had for years. Apparently they have camcorders, so why not refrigerators, electricity, and the like?

I started the first season on a whim the other day and blew right through it. I loved it and I don't know why. Perhaps I'm just really drawn to slice of life series filled with moe girls?

  13. There are gonna be 3 more extra episodes for Achiga-hen, but I wouldn't expect them too soon, the anime got pretty much to the point where the manga is right now, so they have to give Ritz more time to draw it.
Unless of course they're going for an anime original ending.

    Pretty accurate though.

So I suppose that's it for spring season.
Let's see what's in store for summer.

Yuru Yuri - after watching the first episode it gets a 10/10, 5 star rating, and a best of the season award right off the bat. Even if everything else sucks this will make the season awesome.

Haven't seen yet but definitely plan on watchiing:

    - Muv-Luv
    - Sword Art Online
    - Horizon 2
    - Lagrange 2
    - Tari Tari
    - Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita
    - Oda Nobuna

Yuru Yuri was like this for me too. I don't know why I love it, but I do, and usually I'm not drawn to slice of life or moe anime (if anime at all, I'm very lousy at watching anime). I find it very funny and it's one of those pieces of paradise that always make me happy no matter how I feel.

  19. No one watched Total Eclipse (the fanboys will get angry if I just called it Muv-Luv. :P) yet? I really can't say much since the first episode barely made an impression on me. It felt like a less fun and more "grim-dark-serious" version of Gunbuster with all of the references to it and all.I couldn't care less about any of the characters, none of them strike home for me yet. In addition, the animation isn't that great. I hate the character designs and the body suits that the characters have to wear, it's like the art director is trying way to hard to be sexy. Oh well, at least the girls seemed like they actually trained to become mecha pilots rather than miraculously become one like in Rinne no Lagrange (which is superior by the way). I'll stick around as the second episode promised some action, but I don't know if it'll keep my attention all the way through.

Is this anime connected to Rumbling Hearts, because that purple haired chick from that series appeared in this episode!?!
