  3. Well it be that time again. Episode 9 of AKB0048 has arrived and I must talk more about this show.

A pretty direct episode, with our understudies having their first concert (sort of). The understudies make it to the snowy, grey and depressing planet that I forget the name of. Whilst they see poverty abound they see some kids watching an AKB0048 concert who speak.... I don't really know what language they were speaking. I guess Russian, or something else Slavic. Anyway, after seeing how these girls light up after recognizing the understudies, the understudies put on an impromptu concert and realize how much hope they give the people in places with full entertainment bans. (also prior to that, Mimori cheers up that 76th gen girl who is doubtful with some warm words, then immediately breaking the mood by saying she is a masochist).

The little concert the understudies give prompts an idea from the manager (who the WOTA were calling by another name earlier) for the understudies turned stand-ins to give multiple lives in scattered locations to throw DES off, which is exactly what they do, so that their forces would be too scattered for the main event of the current Idols.

Kanata on the otherhand has been training so as to stand-in for Takamina on stage, because the manager thinks she is in no state to perform. She actually almost gets her chance on stage, but Takamina comes back at the last minute and the Manager lets her back in because of her determination (as well as making a Kirara shine at the same time). In the end we are treated to the 77th gen's first live, and the concert proper, with a nice side of dodging bullets and thwarting DES forces. A very entertaining episode if I do say so myself.

Takamina in the end thinks that Kanata would be better for the job than herself, as even though she worked so hard to stand in for her, Kanata immediately put her feelings to the side for the sake of the concert and the fans. I'm not really sure what Takamina's fate will be from here on. If she calls it quits, I doubt that she'll actually go through with it because of the many who will probably try and talk her out of it, Kanata included. Also, the Kirara lit up when she came back on the scene. I think she still has some fight in her left.

Also 2 other things. The fact that the WOTA referred to the Manager by another name probably means she was an idol in the past, which I was expecting (I guess seeing the Idol-turned-Manager thing with Ritsuko in iDOLM@STER made me expect it) but it would also explain the diamond in her hair. I noticed in the episode with Tomochin's family that all the past Tomochins had diamonds in their hair, instead of the normal heart motif the idols were given up to that point (as well as the current Tomochin). This in all likelyhood means that the diamond motif is for past idols. Just as well, the girls that were found watching an AKB0048 vid in secret were shown in the concert proper, and one of them gained the trademark heart motif in their eyes. This in all likelyhood means they will be one of the generations in the future, as all current Idols and understudies have the motif.

I'm really interested to see how things play out in time, especially with Takamina and Kanata. I can most definitely say that this is one of my favorites of the season along with Acchi Kocchi and Jormungand.

  5. Tasogare Otome X Amnesia aired its final episode and I watched it.

...And Yuuko can't ascend into heaven because of her last kiss with Teiichi? If most horror movies are to be believed, Teiichi's in deep shit. The whole stuff just seemed so tacked on.

In the end, I think it's just an excuse for them to have a reason to make Season 2 if they so incline.

That episode was... something to be sure.

I thought that seeing more than one turn ahead would be hard on her, but I didn't think it would be THAT hard on her. She looks like she was beaten in a street alley. If this were a Shounen Action Anime, this would be the point at which she repeatedly coughs up blood. And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't she actually pass out for a few turns or so only to wake up right when it's just about to be her turn? I knew that Teru could push people to the edge of despair, but I think this might be the first instance of Teru pushing someone to the brink of death.

Also we got to find out why Hanada was there, and while I wasn't surprised to find out she wasn't the school's ace, I wasn't expecting to find out that she wasn't even in her school's top 5. That kinda sucks that she's there solely to act as a sacrificial lamb to Teru so that the others will have a fighting chance (though Hanada herself probably has the most depressing ability in the series, the ability to not loose all of your points). Because of her ability and her strong will/chipper attitude, her captain decided she was the best sacrifice. With friends like that, who needs enemies (although Hanada seemed quite willing to be the lamb at the altar. Now I'm really wondering if she is a masochist).

And Kuro has become a hollow shell of herself. It is interesting that her ability has still been active all this time, but it did her little good anyway.

Achiga is definitely one of those shows where it has interesting characters, but none of them are the mains. And now it's just a never ending stream of pity for the actual mains just because they are so outclassed. I just hope Toki will be alright.

  7. Accel World ep 11 was more epic than I expected it to be. That was one crazy ass fight scene.

No kidding, poor Toki looked like she had a terminal illness and was about die any minute during this episode. And after that last attempt and the next episode preview I'm afraid at this rate we may witness a tragedy next week.
    Teru is a raping machine.

And the victims just keep piling up.

Kuro and the Achigas aren't even relevant anymore at this point.
It's a Teru vs Toki & Hanada deathmatch, Kuro just quietly sits there in the corner and tries not to get in the way too much.
Why isn't Toki the main character anyway?

  10. I like Hyouka, the latest ep10 really bring joy toward people who like detective theme kind of anime.

It aint exaggerated case, and not the kind of thing you need background CSI check to know all complicated thing to solve the mystery.

I actually think that Toki and the rest of the Senriyama team of Osaka would make for more interesting mains than Achiga. I've grown far more attached to them and they stand more of a chance than Achiga so it would ease the sense of incomming dread.

Pretty much the only reason Achiga are the mains is beacuse they have a small connection to the original cast of Kiyosumi (and only Nodoka), whilst Senriyama has no connection to them. But really, if Achiga is looked at from any other angle than their connection to Nodoka, they are just as much cannon fodder as those girls from Saitama a few episodes back with the weird hats.

  12. Fate/Zero ep 25. I was expecting there to be a fight between Saber and Archer. Didn't the flashback from the first ep of Fate/Stay Night show them clashing swords? A little disappointed that there wasn't that last big epic battle, but other than that, the series was really great.

Akibaranger ep 11: Lololololol 4th wall breakage. XD

Has anyone else even mentioned this show? Is it significant that it was listed as having 26 episodes before, but seems to have ended at 13 instead?

I watched the pre-air of Hiiro no Kakera but it didn't catch my interest enough to have me watch the rest. It wasn't particularly bad though.

  15. Hancha's walls of text never cease to amuse me. I meant that as a compliment BTW.

I have a question to those who'd seen Rinne no Lagrange. I might watch it and would like some output.

Sometimes I felt like Rinne no Lagrange lacked a specific point they were working towards, but I liked it a lot in general. The action is nice, the story--though sort of scattered, in my opinion--is okay and I like the characters a lot.

Rinne no Lagrange 2 is one of the anime I'm looking forward to most.

I'll give you the short version first: Watch it! You should have started yesterday! Watch it with all possible haste!

As for the long version (well not super long as I will be spoiler-free): I must admit that even though I am a massive Otaku, I am not really one for Mecha. Some of it is just my natural preference for Fantasy over Sci-Fi, but it's just something about Mecha itself. The fact you're doing the fighting from within a machine, inside a cockpit feels very detached and impersonal for my tastes. I also find gun battles less exciting than fights with fists, swords or melee weapons for the same reason. Though I still enjoy series that are gun-centric (like Black Lagoon, or the just finished Jormungand), the feeling of detachment from the actual battle feels greater in Mecha. Generally I prefer Mecha Musume (like Strike Witches) or things similar to it in style (like Infinite Stratos, at least in a guilty pleasure sort of way), because the character themselves is more out in the open and it doesn't feel as removed and distant to me. But with proper Mecha (either Real or Super Robot) my interest withers rather quickly. Admitedly, Mecha Anime have no bussiness catering to someone who is biased against it from the start for an increadibly poor reason.

Though despite all of that, that massive wall of bullshit, Rinne no Lagrange climbed it and made me thoroughly love it. A big part of why it does that is how the show plays with it's tropes and it's 3 main heroines. Madoka is basically a good Shounen protagonist gender-flipped, she is eager to help out without seeming like a martyr, she is perky and endearing without seeming obnoxious or annoying, and is hot-blooded without coming off as an idiot. She is a genki-girl that is very adorable and makes for a very good hero, without feeling annoying despite how chipper she is. She is, in other words, how Ohana should have turned out in Hanasaku Iroha. Lan on the otherhand may be the Rei-clone she looks to be, but she is an increadibly interesting take on the Rei-clone who is still quite emotive in her own way, and easily ranks very high amongst my personal list of favorite Rei-clones. Muginami is of the same archtype Tsumugi of K-ON is more or less. Carefree, slightly ditzy and a bit of an airhead, and giving off an aura that is all around "fluffy" as it were (is there a specific name for this archtype I wonder?...). However she as well is a very interesting and entertaining take on her archtype and characters similar to her. I cannot go into details about Muginami as her character is far too spoilerific, but suffice to say she is a very good character along with the rest of the heroines. None of them are outright deconstructions, but none of them are completely played strait either. They are fun characters who definitely belong to certain archtypes, but have qualities of their own, and I really enjoyed that.

This playfulness carries into the general tone and setting of the show. Lagrange itself is Super Robot, but the characters besides the mains are very grey and the show is far more morally ambiguous than you would initially expect. Besides the heroines, the heroes are dodgy and the villains are honorable and don't like collateral damage. However, despite the show's thick sea of grey, the overall mood is hopeful and optimistic, and the power of friendship is very prevalent (or more than that possibly, as the relations between the 3 heroines is more of a Class S friendship by the series end and the amount of Yuri subtext is sky high). I love the juxtaposition the series has between the 2, and I really enjoy the fact that you can have morally ambiguous characters and still have a very hopeful tone.

Also the art is stunning to look at, and the animation is excellent as well and it makes for great fight scenes. Not to mention the 3 heroines are very cute as well, and I really do not tire of looking at them in their skirted plugsuits....

And as a side note, I love the design of the Mechs of the series, the Vox units. I love their sleek and modern look and their vibrant colors, their size is just right for my tastes as well. I also find the cockpit that gives a complete 360 view of the outside a nice touch as well, and it makes the pilots feel like they are more a part of the fight. I generally find the Gundams to be too boxy for my tastes, and things like the Eva units are too slim for me as well. The Vox units strike a very good balance between the 2, and I quite enjoy their design.

So I must say, give he series a try, I don't think you will be disappointed.

*(And thank you for the compliment!)*

  18. The best part about Lagrange is easily the characters.
And the rest? The plot, the mechas, the battles are rather mediocre at best. I wish it had more yuri.

Still gonna watch the second season though.

A mecha anime somebody who doesn't like mecha actually watched. I think it's worth it.

I've only seen a few parts of Rinne [first episode] a few months ago when a friend showed it to me. For fun, I had a friend watch it first for some feedback. In his case, he likes mecha, but it got not so good feedback from him. He obviously hasn't seen Stratos 4 or Soreyuke! Uchu Senkan Yamamoto Yoko.

Plot and characters aren't a problem for me since there are already so many anime and manga out there that it's rare to see very original stuff. If the viewer focuses too much on how original something is and expects a lot from a title, it kills a lot of the enthusiasm.

    And you're welcome. ^_^
