Discuss the last anime episode you saw (spoilers)

There are titles that would make me want to stop watching to take a break from heavy emotions [Clannad -After-] or make me want to stop because its boring or disgusting me.

Emotionally impactful shows are hard to watch a lot of at once. I can usually space them out to about one or two episodes a day, if it's something that I love. I do the same for plot-intensive shows, too, since I don't want to forget any of the details. To recover stamina, I've got stuff like Dokuro-chan or Azumanga or even Strike Witches, which you can marathon a lot easier.

Nope. I just like seeing things end regardless of the ending. To me, it's how they got there that counts. There are titles that would make me want to stop watching to take a break from heavy emotions [Clannad -After-] or make me want to stop because its boring or disgusting me.

In Guilty Crown's case, there are things I didn't like, but the optimist in me looks for what's good in a title. GC is one of the titles written to depress in the later half, which it did well.

What's good in it? The soundtrack is one thing, the first half is another. The second half did its job, so I think that's also good.

I stopped a few days when they implemented the ranking system and an angel died. I finished it because the optimist in me was looking for some sort of redemption in the later episodes and there are, but it's one of the titles I might not pick up again in a while unlike the titles I really liked.

There are titles that are bad or a waste of time, but there is no such thing as a title that is not worth watching or finishing.

    Now this is role reversal.

You are far more charitable than me. I do not drop shows often, but when I do it's when they have pissed me off to such a degree that there is literally no good point which can redeem it's glaring faults (and even then I don't always drop it, as by the time I grow to hate it with a passion I'm often too far in and I figure I might as well just finish it, which was the case with Blood-C).

I've heard with multiple people that Guilty Crown's second half is better, but the 1st half just pissed me off to such a degree that I could literally care less about what comes next and I don't care at all about what I'm possibly missing. You mentioned Clannad, which is an Anime I love myself (both seasons as well). Sure, After Story was depressing but I already loved the first season and After Story was of excellent quality as well, so I kept going regardless. To me there is a gulf of quality difference between Clannad and Guilty Crown so great that saying it was the difference between McDonalds and Wagyu Beef would still not come close.

I'm sorry I'm being so harsh, as you are obviously being far more open than me. I do respect that you like to see your shows to the end, and It's something that I try to do myself. Guilty Crown for me however just pushed my limits too far, and to anyone who watched it to the end on the principle of finishing what you started, props to you. You have a level of patience when it comes to Anime even I don't have.

At least Clannad After Story had a happy ending, much like Kanon. I despise tragedy if it doesn't result in at least some happiness or hope.

It's a shame to hear consistently bad things about Guilty Crown; regardless of characterization, Inori has an eye-popping design.

So by that criteria did you enjoy Madoka or F/Z? Madoka was bittersweet, but you can't really say the same for F/Z.

To get back to what Genosabre said, most of the shows I dislike I manage to find some good points about it and I am still glad I watched them at the end of the day. I may dislike both Madoka and Eva for example, but I am still glad I watched them.

I only stopped Clannad -After- because my chest is beginning to hurt. If I kept watching, I might have to be literally sent to the hospital.
I try to be patient with everything. Minami-ke's anime version tested it though and I lost. I stopped it at episode 1 because of its pace. It's good though.

So far, I've watched Clannad twice, Clannad -After- thrice, Kanon thrice, ToraDora 6 or 8 times [Taiga reminds me of my first GF a lot up to backstory], 08th MS Team 4 times, PMMM 4 times.

I dare you to watch Clannad -After- without the reset button episode. Saddest ending ever.

I haven't seen either of them. I'd like to see Madoka, but I don't have an interest in Fate/Zero. Even though that show is such a downer, you could say that things are set right by the time of Fate/Stay Night. The Tohsaka sisters are reunited, for one thing, which is my favorite character interaction of the series.

I'm a fan of the Fate franchise [yet to finish the game though]. I like Fate/Zero because of the good CMOA. Madoka on the other hand is a good twist to the usual bubbly and cute mahou shoujo anime most are used to. Once or twice is good.

True, one should watch slowly or watch something more light-heated when watching After Story. It's rough on the soul once you get halfway through. It's an excellent show, but that doesn't mean it's not difficult to watch as the main character's life falls to pieces.

And there are many people who detract from After Story because of it's reset-button ending. You wanted that happy ending by the time you got to it more than anything. You were so emotionally invested in Tomoya's life and he just suffered one mortal blow after another. It's not totally unforshadowed, and I probably wouldn't have remembered After Story as well if it ended with the death of Ushio. I highly doubt that it would have gotten a popular as it did if it ended on that note, as that could stand as one of the worst "Bad Ends" in Anime. I'm thankful for that reset ending, I don't care what anyone says.

In the game, you have to go through the various routes to get that ending. In that aspect, it's an ending Tomoya deserves. I love both endings, period.

  10. I finished ef - a tale of melodies a few months ago, and even though I was crying like a little bitch, I ultimately felt happy, because of the reunion that the grown-up, angel Yuko had with Yuu before she had to leave Earth for good, and the belief that the two of them will be together again permanently in the afterlife. Yuko's and Yuu's life histories were so humongously tragic that I truly needed that closure. I'm not religious, but it's comforting to believe in the immortality of the soul.

Anyway, I wouldn't tolerate an ending any harsher than the bittersweet ending of Melodies, but it was powerful, powerful stuff. Yuko Amamiya is one of the most beautiful anime characters ever. So of course she becomes an angel... Sorry for my maudlin post, but it really got to me.

  11. And that's another one. If you haven't watched Ef -A tale of Memories- yet, you should. Watching either one first is fine.

Oh, I have. I watched them both in order. Memories was sad, too, but it dealt with different issues, which resolved themselves a bit more obviously and straightforwardly between the couples. Both ef series are freakin' awesome. The art direction alone is just magical. The element of sex is integrated very well in these two romances, unlike so many other anime series.

I really liked the phone booth scene in Memories. Might watch it again
    or some light hearted title.

God, that was intense. And the way it ended, too... I haven't played the game, but I get the feeling that Memories and Melodies are among the better anime adaptions of visual novels. Particularly the way that they don't gloss over the sex too much, and slip it in subtlely.

...Ohhhhh, I just realized how that last part sounded. XD

Prepare your heart. Ugh... I just remembered stuff I shouldn't.

    All these replies..
Is the series just bad, or is the ending heart breaking?
I heard it didn't really get much good votes?
But still, the story might not be all that original, and everything seems to be a bit speedy. It is pretty cool to see everything progress.

Ohh read most on top. I c, I c.. Still going to try and sit it through.

It was written by the same guy who wrote Code Geass. Take a clue from that. Ehehe.

Sit through it. Regardless of what they say, it's good.

  20. Thanks to Guilty Crown, I was finally able to use the entire scoring scale in MAL, gave it a well deserved 1. =D

F/Z was good but I'm a bit disappointed with the fights, LancelotXArturia will be extended in some director's cut episode and ArturiaXGilgamesh was nowhere near as epic as I expected based on the scenes of F/sn, I hope there's more.

As a person who hates Dei Ex Machina I hate Clannad After Story ending with a passion, albeit a bit less than Tomoya himself.
