Oh, and naked Puru 2 for your viewing pleasure.

Elpeo Ple and Ple Two were my faves. I have 2 mini-figs of Elpeo and SD gunplas of the two Quebeley Mk2s.

Found a fun little fan image which raises the question: What if Marida (as Ple Twelve) actually ran into Judau years ago?

Marida: "Judau, hurry up and come for me!"
Judau: " Sorry to have kept you waiting, Ple..."
Banagher: "Marida's quite the romanticist herself..."

On topic, watched a few episodes of Turn A Gundam. The mech designs aren't particularly impressive, but the story and setting totally caught my attention.

Turn A's designer is Syd Mead(Blade Runner, Aliens, Tron).

Turn A will grow on you, many people finish the series loving it.

The Zeta movies changed the ending of the Zeta series, Kamille isn't a vegetable anymore. =/

Yeah, well, Kamille deserves a little happiness I guess.

I do like that Kamille always ends up with Fa in the end(in both the tv and movies). At the beginning of the original gundam, I wanted Amuro to end up with Fraw, but half way through the series, she just lost her screen time. Barely even noticed she was still around.

With the movies having alternate events, it's hard to tell what should be canon. I would say in most cases, the tv holds precedence as the canon. But I was reading Char's deleted affair before and in the beginning of that, as Zena, Mineva and Char are leaving A Baoa Qu, M'quve is there with them until he gets shot down. That means CDA is based on the movie continuity(since M'quve died much earlier at texas colony in the tv series).

I would like to see a cameo from one of the previous gundam pilots before Unicorn is over. Either Kamille or Judau. Probably won't happen though.

Saki ep 7 - Why the heck is Stealth Momo in Tokyo!?
Anyway, I guess they'll somehow surpass Senriyama in the next match to make it to the finals. I'd rather have them lose though. Achiga just kinda sucks.

I have to agree tho, I think Momo is there to support or something, but Achiga really sux, that glove girl which everyone tot has some super awesome power, just play for less than 5 min and her screen time is over, and Shiraitodai, lol is that a Yakuza school? 2 freaking row of girls standing along the corridoor just for Teru.

I've already come to love the little steam-powered town where people only know of mechs from a historical archive and have a coming-of-age ritual where leeches are put on a girl's back to mark her imminent adulthood.

Loran is also quite likeable as a main character.

I'm just hoping that this isn't part of the "kill-em-all" series like the train wreck that was V Gundam.

Same. I'm not crossing my fingers though.

  6. The General Revil. Didn't realize it's the same class of ship as the one Scirocco uses in Zeta. It's so damn sexy. Look at all those mobile suit launch pads.

I do like that Amuro didn't end up with the childhood friend, made Zeta appears more serious and realistic.
I don't even think CDA is canon, the first animated iterations of them(series, OVAs and movies like 0083, F91 and Char's Counter-attack) are what is considered by bandai to be canon. If the Zeta movies were to be taken as canon, ZZ wouldn't happen since there is no mad Kamille.
Also, Beltorchika's Children and Hathaway Flash novels aren't canon, even though they were written by Tomino.

Don't worry, Turn A is sorta light hearted for the most part. Albeit it does bring some mindfucks.

    That much I can handle.

Will be watching a few more later after my errand run.

    Interesting. I agree.

I kinda like Beltorchika. It would've been nice if she could've had a family with Amuro.

There are so many characters I feel bad for. They met such tragic ends. Poor Icelina.

Btw, I don't buy the whole "Amuro still being hung up on Lalah" thing. He hardly knew her. He had much longer relationships with a bunch of other girls. The only thing Lalah had that they didn't was that she was a newtype and he kinda stabbed her in the face.

True, but Tomino is too sadistic, even Judau who is from a mostly comedic series ends up foreveralone as shown in Crossbone. Killing Amuro in three ways was probably not enough for him.
I think the only couple in UC you get the feel they lived happily ever after is Berah/Cecily and Seabook/Kincaido. =/

That reminds me, I still need to see F91 and Crossbone.

F91 is not very good because they took the pieces meant for a TV-series and made a movie. Crossbone is great, but its manga shouldn't be taken seriously. Only read it after watching F91 since it's chronologically a sequence of F91.

  13. Do any of ye know anything about the Gundam: The Origins anime adaptation that is supposedly in the works? What's different in Origins?

  14. This?> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Suit_Gundam:_The_Origin

    =P

Not very different, I guess they're basically trying to make the first series less like a power ranger series with a new villain per episode, more mature.
And an excuse to Bandai sell more gunpla and RX-78-2 variations as usual.

  16. Sorry to break this wonderful conversation on Gundam but I feel the need to gush on how fucking awesome I think Acchi Kocchi is.

When I saw the description I was not very impressed as it was kinda boring sounding, so I ended up watching it because I knew it would be Moe and I have a raging hard on for SoLs. What I found (in addition to more than enough Moe to shake a Magical Girl baton at) was an awesomely hilarious series.

I love how the characters bounce off each other and how the show makes normal, mundane situations absurdly over the top and endlessly entertaining. I find the humor itself to be very consistent as well, it's almost always the same level of funny. There's no one I dislike as well. The show is just absurdly fun with a nice combination of physical humor, wordplay gags and visual humor under the show's general situational comedy umbrella. I also really appreciate the fact that they work in Miniwa's massive crush on Io very well and in the same tone as the rest of the show, without bogging down the general show in a side romance that doesn't fit. I am in love with how this show exaggerates the mundane into the fantastic, and along with Jormungand and Lupin III is my favorite of the Spring 2012 season (AKB0048 most likely as well, but it premiered far later than everything else and as such is still in it's early stages).

  20. More about things which are not Gundam (yay?). This time is Hyouka.

The show is slow paced, but once it gets going it is quite good. First off the show looks fucking amazing, as would be expected from KyoAni. But on top of that it does the really nice surreal imagery that one would expect from SHAFT, but still keeping up a great level of technical quality (SHAFT maybe one of my favorite Anime Studios, but I'll be the first to admit that they are not good animators. They are great at the artistic half of things, being excellent visual artists, but poor at the technical side of things). Like in the just aired ep.6, I loved the scene where the chibi, angel-winged Chitandas start gathering on Houtarou en masse like mushrooms while saying "Kininarimasu" over and over. Or when Houtarou saw Chitanda as an angel after she said it takes too much energy to get angry. And that's just from this episode alone. Definitely another KyoAni work that is excellent to look at.

As for the characters, I love Houtarou. A lot of people try to make their protags like Kyon, and it usually never comes of as well as the original. Houtarou comes relatively close to the original in how much I enjoy him (which is really saying something as Kyon is my absolute favorite "Normal High School Guy" character in all of Anime and one of my favorite male characters in Anime in general). However, despite how much like Kyon he is, he is not a carbon copy which I also enjoy. Houtarou plays up the "Brilliant but Lazy" idea far more than Kyon, as it's never made exactly clear just how intelligent Kyon is (due in part seemingly to Kyon's own denial on the subject). With Houtarou it's made very clear that he is quite intelligent, but that he is just absurdly lazy and hates devoting energy to analyzing things. Houtarou seems more willing to brush things off than Kyon is as well (probably because his actions do not affect the physical incarnation of Dividing by Zero) and connected to that, Houtarou at times seems ruder and more blithe than Kyon (again, when your actions are affecting a girl who is a one man Negative Space Wedgie, your demeanor would change). I don't think he is a Jerk or an Asshole as some contend, but simply very blunt and dismissive. He has not been shown to be malicious. His deductive mind is also a great thing to watch at work. Content-wise, he is one of the larger reasons I like the show.

Concerning Chitanda, I am not super fond of her. I find her intelligence to be mostly an informed ability as she is poor when it comes to the mystery solving. Considering my own personality is similar to Kyon and Houtarou, her "Genki-ness" wears on me quickly. Concerning "Moe" value, I find Ibara much cuter, more attractive and inviting (yes, the local Tsundere. That thread really is my crack baby). This is mainly because I find Chitanda herself to be too damn perfect. However I like how in episode 6 it's acknowledged in-universe that Chitanda boarders on angelic, and that she has shown some intelligence outside of grades (like saying that the Seven Deadly Sins are not pure evil, how without some level of Greed and Envy there can be no ambition and society would not progress, or with out Anger there can be no love). Not my favorite, but let's see how she progresses.

Concerning Satoshi, he is a very nice "best bud" character. He avoids looking like an idiot like other characters of his archtype because of his love for trivia. It also comes in handy when solving the mysteries. I also enjoy his slight flamboyance and sprinkle of camp in his personality which makes him an interesting character to watch (as well as being a possible hint to why he lacks the perversion of many other characters within his archtype). Also there is of course Ibara. To be honest we still don't know much about her, and she didn't really come to any conclusions of notice in the mysteries (granted, she does try). However I don't care about that, as I think she is unbelievably cute and super Moe. Hopefully however, we will get to see more of her.

Concerning the Mysteries of the show, I for one actually like the mundane nature of the mysteries. By having the mysteries be rather normal and not in any way life risking, KyoAni achieves this rather weird combination, one of both engagement and relaxation. It's engaging because of how the mysteries are built up, with changes in the camera angles and music, as well as differently illustrated visuals. The relaxation comes from the fact that the mysteries themselves have very little at stake in reality, start quietly and tend to end quietly. This makes them have almost the same relaxing, cathartic feeling I get from watching SoLs. I love that combination where I am very engaged in the events yet feel relaxed by it's contents. I really love that about the show.

Sure, the show pace is quite slow. And the show's very mundane take on the mystery genre might not be for everyone, but I myself quite enjoy it. It does have probably my favorite male protagonist of this season to be sure, and it looks damn amazing. I like it, what about you?

*(Also the ED is simultaneously the cutest and sexiest thing ever)*
