Sooo what now Canada?

  1. Ok so apparently canada and most first world countries are in a race to be the biggest dicks to internet culture and here is canadas bit.

    http://openmedia.ca/blog/proposed-crime-bill-makes-anonymity-and-hyperlinks-illegal-canada

If you don;t want to click it this is the gist. Anonymous names ILLEGAL hyperlinking ti sites with "hate speech" ILLEGAL. In short the internet itself would be illegal.

Seriously people WTF things like anonymity and freedom of speech regardless of how heinous is what the nternet is all about this mixed with things like a new proposal in the US to make it MANDATORY for internet providers to keep your data for longer is just going to have one of 2 results.

    Either

    A) Rebel uprising of the nerds or

B)people adapt until we get a FULL ON uprising that could very well make the current ones in the middle east look peaceful.

  2. It will take far more than that to make the sedated societies of the Western world to violently rebel. Those who would are both too few and not the kind of people who give a damn about the internet in the first place. Granted, if the current trends continue I do think the US at the least will fall apart sometime later this century, or at least become dangerously volatile. The political ineptitude is just despicable at the moment, its only a matter of time before people stop complaining about it and start doing something about it.

  3. I don't think people in America would let this happen since they bitch about anything and everything anyway.

  4. lmao.

  5. I don't think that's gonna happen.

Where did you get this crap? Did you just make it up? The link to the bill you provide is dead and the link URL points to the 3rd session of the 40th Parliament, which concluded when the previous Harper government fell in a vote of non-confidence. Anyone who knows even a little bit about Canadian democracy knows that all unpassed legislation died with it. Further, a search of the proceedings of that session shows no hits for either, "hyperlink," or, "pseudonym." Seriously. Get your facts (and your links) in order before you look like an idiot.

Some guy commented on the article, if it were true I would have probably heard about it.

  6. They also include a provision that would penalize people for linking to content that is considered 'hate speech' and for using names that protect their anonymity online.

You can tell that these people have no clue about how the Internet works.

Could this have something to do with "Bill C-46: Investigative Powers for the 21st Century Act"?

Clause 7 of the bill provides that the offences of public incitement of hatred and wilful promotion of hatred may be committed by any means of communication and include making hate material available, by creating a hyperlink that directs web surfers to a website where hate material is posted, for example.

You are right. This isn't just in the US and Canada though. The UK is currently being subjected to one of the worst governments in the past few years.

    ANARCHY!

Actually it seems to be a first world in general thing. The concepts of being PC and trying to appease everyone mixed with the internet and alot of politicians lack of knowledge about the internet all mix together to create a motherfucking cesspool of policies and laws that can NEVER truly work.

Oh and i may be a shut in but i sure as fucking hell wouldn't mind getting involved in a revolution. In fact i think things are just going to get worse and worse until we have one. To paraphrase the town sheriff(?) from Young Frankenstein

"A revolution is an ugly thing..AND I THINK IT'S JUST ABOUT TIME WE HAD ONE!"

That paraphrase ums up my views quite well not to mention right now is one of the few times it could actually succeed at least in the US if done right. I mean our military is spread hella thing around the world and if enough people in enough cities acted up at once they could probably make a nice foothold by the time the troops came back not to mention how some of those troops could rebel and join them. The other thing is that police no longer know how to deal with true violent riots they're terrified of lawsuits and bad political press also why bomber and tanks probably wouldn't be used too un pc to use on your own people. In short now strikes me as one of the few chances we have. Oh also the government still knows shit about technology so bets to get em with their pants down in that area as well.

  9. Its true. The coaltion of the Conservative and Liberal Democrat partys that are running the UK at the moment will not last until the next election. Every new policy they enforce is hit with a huge backlash. You might of heard of the student riots after they put up university fees. The rest of the country should follow suit.

  10. Yeah, everyone's going to throw a bloody revolution because they can't post anonymous.

You obviously don't know that despite the screwed up legal system, you can fight the system and win. And despite the fact that the majority of the populus have their heads up their ass, there are those still fighting the good fight.

I don't know about Canada or the UK, but politicians in the US are being held accountable and being kicked out of office.

Not fast enough and i see it as more of a preventative thing than a thing we need right now for this point in time.

↑This exactly. The wording in somewhat less than friendly, but the point stands firm.
