Name a touhou game (main series or fan made) that looked really good but when you actually played it, it was either just really bad or painfully dull/tedious/repetitive.
For me Touhou Pocket Wars (any version). While it really seemed fun at first (great artwork and music, after pointless card battle number 5000300204 to level up enough characters to do the story events, I really just wanted to kill someone.
It is one of the few games where I just said "screw it! I can't take it anymore!!!!"
I haven't played any Touhou games besides the ones by ZUN and Touhou Sky Arena, So i guess i'll have to say IaMP... I don't even know how to use spell cards on that game...
My favorite one is Soku :)
I don't play many Touhou games (official or fan-made) but I can name plenty of Touhou doujinshi that started off good but turned dull after a few pages. Well, I can't actual name them all since many of them were too boring to bother remembering.

You should make a website dedicated to mediocre touhou doujinshi.
I didn't liked Pocket Wars either. Fun at first but then got too tedious.
As for the main games... I'm not sure if it would be called bad, but I only disliked UFO. Getting those ufos is a great pain, only 2 bombs per life, Marisa B sucks and being at full power is very hard.

Too much work. Though it might be fun to watch Touhou fans rage whenever their favorite doujinshi about their waifu gets called "mediocre."

I agree. The idea of 2 player danmaku is awesome. But I do not like the control scheme.

IaMP was bad but both SWR and Soku were very good imo
The music in Touhou Sky Arena gets on my nerves but it needs a English patch. :)

Pretty fun at first, since you know the characters and you'd be thrilled with their skills. Actually I enjoyed it for quite a while. A lot of items were made just for the lulz, like a frozen frog or the Yagokoro doll. Anyway it's fun. Some characters are almost imba, but it's all fun.

My apologies. I mixed up the games. The one I meant to say was bad was Phantasmagoria of Flower View. That's the one with 2 player danmaku.

That makes me sad, because PoFV is one of my favourite games :'(
Lunatic match mode is so much fun
PoFV is one of my favourites too.
I enjoy being crushed in hard mode.
