What magazines do you read?

  1. Okay as it says what magazines do you read. I'm just kinda curious as to our reading tastes.

    I personally read

    Scientific American

    Scientific American Mind

    Discover

    The Atlantic(rarely but on occasion)

    Time

    Otaku USA

Neo(a british anime rag we sometimes get at my local barnes and noble)

If it counts and hell i'm the Op so why not Shounen Jump

    Game Informer

when we have a subscription i read National Geographic every so often.

So yeah what do you guys read. Also if i'm right my reading list is less otaku than you guys woulda thought.

Oh and aside from Neo and National Geographic my family has a subscription to all

I read the newspaper as well i especially enjoy the advice column. Well that and the regular paper as well as bits of the comics. But yeah i'd rather read in paperback than online it;s why i rarely give references for things i say cause i tend to get my info from magazines more than the internet.

  5. One of the free newspapers you can pick up at every train station.
It's pretty neat, that way you get to read something while sitting in the train on your way to/back from work.

dont worry, im 27 so Im a senior citizen by internet standards. I just see magazines & newspapers as pointless, I don't see the point of paying $5 for information that is old by the time it reaches the stands, as well as doctored pics, all of which I can get, read and downlaod for free online. Same thing happened to CDs, both music and video.

thats my opinion, tho it seems to be the world's at large, just looking at how the magazine racks at stores have shrunk over the past couple of years

Well i like the tactile feel of the magazine and to be able to display em on a booksehlf. I feel the same about books and movies as well as music.

    Oh and games.

  12. Popular photography and Digital Photo when they get here.

    Does Nyantype count too?
    And Hobby Japan sometimes.

Whenever I'm at the store, I'll browse through the gaming magazines but I never buy. Sometimes also look at different computer magazines.

There are no english anime magazines worth buying now. Otaku USA sucks.

The best magazines are the ones published in the UK imo. This goes for all the subjects. Games, photography, anime. The ones I've read from the UK are soooo much better than the US published ones. If I could subscribe to them, I would.

Note: These are all superior magazines published in the UK.

EDIT: Gameinformer is actually pretty good.

Well i think i prefer Otaku USA to NEO myself but i still get it when i can. I find NEO seems to be a bit more conservative while Otaku USA seems to try and find a more balanced perspective. I also like they're review style more where it seems to act more advisory than saying this one is trash this one is great MOST of the time.

But to each they're own i guess.

  17. Wired used to be good, but I guess they're okay now.

Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, and Discover are solid too.

  19. Used to read Canadian Home Workshop and Finewoodworking, but eventually the variations on how to make most classic furniture just run out.

Used to like Military Modeler until it got borged by Scale Modeler. I don't hate planes, but I prefer a mag that does tanks to stick to tanks. Thing is, they too run out of fresh content eventually.

Finescale Modeler is likely the only publication I'd like to add in the future, but it's a cash flow thing.
Same reason I dropped National Geographic. Eventually they actually run out of planet to talk about eh (yes I know that sounds odd, but remember, I've been reading it since the 70s).

Was getting ArmChair General for a while. But it is too little in content to be honest, and no real competition for proper text books.

  20. When I was employed as a programmer I used to read c´t (which is the most popular and influential computer magazine here in Germany) as well as a couple of games related magazines. And on very rare occasions I would buy yellow press crap for some lulz.

Oh, and MAD magazine used to be cool, but it became too expensive.
