Okay as the title says what genres do you wish were used more often. I personally wish we got more Cyber Punk and Fantasy ala swords and sorcery stuff. It just seems to me that these two genres are getting the short end of the stick these days.
So yeah what now rare genres do you guys miss?
Steampunk, Yakuza, Military [no Mecha | something like Valkyria Chronicles without the uber Valkyriapower crap] and Badass Heroes.
Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu is a nice Fantasy-Anime.
Ancient western military history, like ancient Greece or Rome, I find animes about samurais to be boring (with the exception of samurai champloo).

I know and i need to watch it but that's why i said not as common or rare these days. Hell for a bit even mecha shows were becoming RELATIVELY rare.
I also wish we got more mystic mech or fantasy series with some mechs. Or even fantasy sci fi hybrid series Something like Isekai Sekishi no Monogatari or Rayearth would be nice.

"Record of Lodoss War" was one of the best series ever made.
A Japanese version of the Dragonlance saga would be excellent.

See now THIS is what i was thinking when i said Swords and Sorcery. I miss this genre even in games while still fairly common it's not even half as common as it was.
More manly anime like Hokuto no Ken, not skinny teenager shounen fags like Naruto and Bleach.
Yeah, I also would like to see more "real" fantasy WITHOUT advanced technology. And hardcore SF stories, but please WITHOUT the seemingly mandatory mechas. And more protagonists who are NOT high school kids (wishful thinking I guess).

Well, I didn´t say that I generally dislike genre mashups or mechas. But you gotta admit that epic fantasy tales like the above mentioned Record of Lodoss War are quite rare. Last good fantasy show that I watched was Kemono no Souja Erin - complex story, great artwork, zero fanservice (almost too good to be true).
Same goes for SF shows: the majority has mechas and is therefore landbased, usually even based on Earth - why are there so few space operas?
Shows with original stories without over used shit is also on my wishlist, preferably not another highschool setting.
