Age of Empires/ Ensemble Studios

  1. was going through some old music files last night & came across my favourite AoE3 OSTs like:

it's such a shame ensemble studios, the pioneer of RTS games, had to be demolished by MS... i liked how they were always innovating the gameplay, customization in AoE3 for example, while remaining true to the original RTS style.

what did you like about the AoE franchise/ ensemble studios?

  2. I hated aoe3 so much cause the revolutionary theme. AoE2 was so much better and those custom maps were fun.

  3. Well, as I've mentioned many times before I love the Age of Empires series and have played all three games so much its ridiculous and still play AOE3 now.
I'm not a big gamer, so aside from a few exceptions I've played very little else for my entire gaming life.
There were many who didn't like AOE3, but I love it. The Home City thing was such a great innovation and little things like trade routes, native villages and treasures made the game all the more fun.

  4. yes, the home city thing was great. loved how it enhanced the variety of game play. starcraft 2 did smt similar on the campaign tho it's such a pity it wasnt available for multiplayer.

lols, i remember this online game i was playing which was going downhill... kept on defending till the last man just because it was hella fun XD i already had my 2 factories so it wasnt entirely gg. best part was the second before my opponent took down my last towncentre the revolution upgrade was completed & spawned tons of outlaws XD at which point i took the offensive in a last ditch of effort bayonet charge style d: i may have lost in the end, but i dragged the game on for more than an hour d:

  5. SC/WC > AoE

    That's real "competitive" RTS.

Anyways, if I wanted a pseudo-serious game with trade routes and whatnot I'd play Civilization, AoE2 was good, 3 was meh.

That's like going up to football fans and say "football is only a game for fucks sake!".

  10. Did someone say RTS!?

    TOOOOOOOTAAAAAAAL WAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!!!!!!

But yes I did enjoy AoE3. For the main storyline actually, it was pretty compelling to me (at the time). The Asian expansion made me sad though, because you couldn't customize the home cities and the stories were just...meh.

  12. I used to play AoE2 a lot (loved using Turks, Byzantines, Spanish) back in, I guess it was elementary school (grade 6-ish?), w/ my friends. We were pretty terrible at it, I think we could barely beat hard 2 vs 2, but it was definitely a fun game.

I didn't really play AoE3 too much, but I recall not really liking the system too much. It was a good thing that they were trying to do something different with the whole shipments thing, but I found it more a pain than something fun.

Oh, I loved the opening song for AoE2, rather, most of the songs I loved.
