Shogun 2: Total War

  1. Anyone else been enjoying some GLORIOUS samurai bloodletting? Best Total War yet, I must say. Converting everyone to Christianity, inciting Christian revolts and then taking over the rebel towns so I don't actually have to go to war with anyone is just WIN. Oh, and a tsunami wiped out one of my provinces (which was under heavy siege) and I guess I'm going to Hell, cause I cheered when it killed most of the enemy army. Then I remembered...I'm a horrible person.

Oh and what the hell is CA trying to tell me here? What's not to like about the Oda Shogunate? Jerks.

  3. I have not played it, but, my friend has been power gaming it since he got it with no complaints and he considers it the best fucking game in 10 years.

He speaks well of the games AI as well.

  4. I can get totally immersed to the Total War grand campaigns and forget to eat for several days at a time. Not that much into RTS multiplayer though.

I always disliked guns in TW games and I must say that I love this game's concept where you can use them if you trade with Europeans or recruit Sohei, but they're not necessary or absurdly overpowered.

Also the graphics are pretty mindblowing even though the game was only running with DirectX9 and no AA when it released. Can't wait till they patch in DirectX11... Can also confirm that the AI has been improved a great deal. For example; Ranged troops try to target your general (if he's in range) in hopes of reducing your army's morale, enemies using several new tactical formations, clans have their honor to mind so your allies will no longer turn on you whenever they get the chance etc.

If you have the required hardware to run it and you can enjoy RTS games even the slightest amount then you better not miss on this one!

Realm divide happens so early I find allies almost completely useless. Of course, in that Oda game, I was surrounded by assfuckers in every damn direction. If you don't make peace with the guys north of you/ignore the rebels in your starting province on turn ONE as Oda, you WILL be wiped out before your second turn. Its freaking hilarious! And even if you do both those things, the Tokugawa and Imegawa(something like that) rapidly move north and the Tokugawa will probably kill you on turn three or four, and the others might if they fail.

If you manage to power through your early enemies though you'll likely find yourself surrounded by a clusterfuck of rivals allied with each other and expansion is precarious at best, and when realm divide happens you'll be forced to fight on an asston of fronts. Its painful.

Well I never said it was impossible. I was only playing on Normal mode after all, so the enemy was slow to rebuild their forces after I wiped our their armies meaning I could march in and take their single starting provinces easily. If it was on a higher difficulty where the AI gets bonuses though, it would be sickeningly punishing.

My Daimyo (or was it Daiymo?) got gangbanged by Christian rebels actually, and the last I saw of my best assassin he was on a boat, but then the boat was gone. Fucking pirates! But I'll get a screenshot of my max level priest later. Its funny that as they(priests at least, probably monks too) level up their appearance changes. He looks like the Pope now, or I guess a Cardinal, hah.

  14. wtf man. playing as hattori clan, i became good friends with the bakufu and the asai clan, decided to pick on the other surrounding ones. for some shit reason, after my clan fame became legendary, all the clans in the game declared war on me >.< even my allies who were "very friendly" according to the diplomacy panel. WTF!!!! & i even helped the asai get back their home province after it was run-downed by the uesugi >.< & when i finally made a peace treaty with the dependable clans, they f-ing declared war on me right after i clicked the "end turn button" FFFFFF (#゚Д゚). anyhoo, i decided to get a trainer & f them all ( ゚∀゚)アハハ八八ノヽノヽノヽノ \ / \/ \

  15. Its called Realm Divide, miss the memo? There are several simple mods that negate it or tone down the harshness of it, but it was put in essentially so the player wouldn't reach a point where they're so wealthy and powerful the AI just gets washed away. Such as, in Rome: Total War, if you took all the Greek cities, it was pretty much game because you'd be making far too much money at that point to be stopped.

Realm Divide is overly punishing mainly because you're economy will be blown to shit initially (which can quickly be the end of you if you lose to many units in battle and cant afford to replace them or the horrible state of it triggers tons of rebellions) and there is no way to repair relations with any of the other factions. Diplomacy no longer exists after Realm Divide as even vassals will quickly turn on you. However, you can use Vassals as a shield leading up to Realm Divide (once you reach 15 provinces it will happen shortly, that's what the clan fame bar is showing) and since the geography of Japan creates so many choke points on the campaign map it can be simple to deal with if you're prepared. Still, having to run your economy without any inter-faction trade for awhile can be insanely difficult and you may not last long enough to capture enough provinces that it no longer matters.

The main thing is hold the line in one direction and kill everything in the other, if you're playing a clan that starts in the middle of Japan that is. If you're playing as a clan on the end its pretty much cake since the far away factions will take forever to get armies to you anyway, plus you're only fighting on one main front. The Northern provinces can get really annoying though what with being so large and rebels likely springing up behind you if you're not careful.

  16. shit didnt happen in empire or napoleon total war (sure they became hostile, but they didnt declare war). + is there a way to avoid it at all while still wining the game?

  17. its a new game, hence the new dynamics. use a trainer/save-reload if it helps

    Posted 5 years ago #
  18. already did... but it kills the fun of having to do so without cheats & i'll quote some1 on another forum.
"Realm Divide is a pitiful feature.

It wasn't necessary in the original Shogun because the AI was good enough that by the time you had conquered half of Japan, so had another faction. Usually the hojo, in my experience."

  19. btw, what mod would be recommended to make RD event more realistic? i've heard of the Realm Divide Mod.

  20. I haven't looked to deeply into them, but Darth's mod I am led to believe leaves it in, BUT allows you to get back on good terms with your former allies so you don't have to fight EVERYONE immediately. It also tweaks some other things to make the game better, his mods are usually the more popular ones for whatever the current TW is.

Sadly, it does not add Darthvader to the game.
