I can get totally immersed to the Total War grand campaigns and forget to eat for several days at a time. Not that much into RTS multiplayer though.
I always disliked guns in TW games and I must say that I love this game's concept where you can use them if you trade with Europeans or recruit Sohei, but they're not necessary or absurdly overpowered.
Also the graphics are pretty mindblowing even though the game was only running with DirectX9 and no AA when it released. Can't wait till they patch in DirectX11... Can also confirm that the AI has been improved a great deal. For example; Ranged troops try to target your general (if he's in range) in hopes of reducing your army's morale, enemies using several new tactical formations, clans have their honor to mind so your allies will no longer turn on you whenever they get the chance etc.
If you have the required hardware to run it and you can enjoy RTS games even the slightest amount then you better not miss on this one!
Realm divide happens so early I find allies almost completely useless. Of course, in that Oda game, I was surrounded by assfuckers in every damn direction. If you don't make peace with the guys north of you/ignore the rebels in your starting province on turn ONE as Oda, you WILL be wiped out before your second turn. Its freaking hilarious! And even if you do both those things, the Tokugawa and Imegawa(something like that) rapidly move north and the Tokugawa will probably kill you on turn three or four, and the others might if they fail.
If you manage to power through your early enemies though you'll likely find yourself surrounded by a clusterfuck of rivals allied with each other and expansion is precarious at best, and when realm divide happens you'll be forced to fight on an asston of fronts. Its painful.
