Jesus Fucking Christ, when did RAM become so expensive?

Isn't that because DDR4 is coming?

  2. DDR4 has just arrived at the shop I usually used, but...

    8GB of DDR3 was £25 when I bought it 2 years ago. Now it's £65. wtf?

Now you know why I only settled for 8GB for my current rig instead of 16.

Thinking back, I may get off my ass and start getting another RAM stick tomorrow. I have a feeling it's only gonna get worse from now on.

You know I have even less interest in that then I do for the iPhone 6 and I have no intention of buying the new iPhone.

Silicon became expensive and production slowed down on DDR3.

  6. It's production is very energy intensive so silicon prices are directly affected by energy prices.
Energy prices are one reason why not much silicon is actually made in Silicon valley anymore.

I guess if a Bond villain sank it today it wouldn't be devastating enough to allow him to corner the market on chips.

Damn boob jobs raising RAM prices. That's another reason DFC > cowtits.

  8. I missed one other reason for the increase in cost .
Bullshit economics in the US to create fake growth numbers probably has devalued the dollar and by association the pound.
Add all three effects together and you get expensive ram though most of the rise is probably just price gouging.

BUT OH NO! THAT IS A COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE ACCUSATION TOWARDS HONEST CORPORATIONS! WE ONLY PRICE OUR PRODUCTS BASED ON MARKET SPECULATION!

The politically correct explanation they'll use to explain the price hikes. What they amount to in the end though is still basically the same.

  10. Four years after building it, I've finally got around to overclocking this PC.

    Fucking procrastination.

  12. My case wouldn't be of procrastination. I simply won't settle for anything less than custom cooling solutions before I overclock my CPU due to ambient temperature concerns. And that costs money that I have been prioritizing for other things lately.

And I've hit 2 of 3 of my main milestones so far. SSD the other day, and another 8GB RAM stick today, that I decided to grab immediately since the shops here have yet to adjust to new prices that shops in the capital has marked up to.

Hopefully I can get that XSPC set by the end of next month, and only then, I can even think of overclocking my 4670K to ~4GHz.

...But man... Do I really need that extra 8GB besides having more history cache for Photoshop? I rarely do video editing anyway.

  13. >Dat Windows 7 screen
Windows 8 really blew that hard, huh? I really cannot wait for Windows 9 and I hope there will be a preview of it by Sept. 30.

And I wish iPhone 6 was something like this.

  14. So... the i7 59XX series along with the 2011-3 mobos and DDR4 RAMs to go with them have come to town. Went to check with my own eyes.

...And holy fuck, DDR4 is really expensive! Even the 2400MHz-rated ones(the lowest available) are priced more than DDR3 sticks at the same size+data rate.

The tr00 8-core proc - and 16 fucking threads with Hyperthreading on - 5960X, being expensive surprised no one, coming from Intel. The 6-core 5930K though is slightly cheaper than I thought it'd be. Then again, that TDP... brrr...

    As are mine.

When I talk about the best of the best though, it's rarely about what I need and more about what I want. Because talk is just that; cheap.

Apparently, the new Windows is Windows 10 and a technical preview is coming up tomorrow. Have not read much of its details but do you guys think about it?

  20. I still say W8.1 is perfectly fine.
The start menu is good. But nothing I am missing.
