  1. Just for my internship. So only word, excel, some webbrowsing and stuff.
I shouldn't be picky. Ohyeah and light photo editing for all the pictures I take here. But it's not necassary since I will leave my y500 in my room if I need the extra stuff. and data on it.

It's the i5 model up for sale though, so that is good.

  2. I think you can get away with an older (and better) Thinkpad for cheaper.

  3. But not so portable and light. That is a must. And singapore eh. Not much 2nd hand to find. Gumtree
The x220 is nice but still more than double in SGP dollar. 450sing$ for a good as new e130 is cheap.

  4. I bought it.
And got it even cheaper. Good deal.

  8. Hehehe. That was my post on 4chan /g/ thinkpad topic. Nice find.
I still don't get the think light thing. I have the fn+space bar key for it, but not the light.

The keyboard is probably a shared part with a model that has a light.

  10. I see. That's a shame. Would've been useful for study sessions at night or whenever.
But.. When I press the key combination the screen does show a think light icon.

  11. Today I almost lost my nerve, as my new rig's LAN module appeared to stop working after a power outage(the LED didn't light up as it used to). I was prepared to go to the power office armed with every swearword and lawsuit threats I could dish out, until I took a deep breath for a while and tinkered with BIOS settings. Turns out this mobo has some power saving features that may get confused in event of power outage during sleep mode, so tinkering with the LAN power saving option appears to have set things straight again.

Come next paycheck, I'll be able to afford an R9 280X and finally own a setup stronger than a PS4, but my friend insists on me waiting until NVIDIA's new lineup comes out. While my mobo only does Crossfire and doesn't support SLI, I've always preferred single-card setup so I'm kinda in a bind. Do I wait for NVIDIA's coming release or should I buy the 280X anyway...?

I prefer single card setups too. Just thinking I'd have to configure two of them to work together gives me an headache.

I'd say wait for nvidia. But if you already have something that needs a new card to work just follow your heart.

  13. :> Goodbye Lenovo Y500 sli.

I've been wasting some time Sunday looking for a desktop build. Still got 3+ months waiting time, but whatever.

    Thinking about this now. (+PSU~)
So.. @ James. I'm also looking at the r9 280x. I'm more for Nvidia as well, but the r9 series gets quite a lot of good reviews.

I looked at R9 280X because of budget constraints. If I could have afforded a 290X(like the superb Tri-X version from Sapphire), I would.

Just remember that while 290 and above is overkill if you don't want to go above 1080p, this overkill status is gonna be gone in 6 months at best. I'd tell you to find a 290X where cryptocurrency craze hasn;t picked up yet and get that instead so that you can play most games at max detail for a few months more, but if you are aware of what 280X can and can't do, the choice is yours.

Of course, you can also just wait until NVIDIA releases more cards in its latest Maxwell lineup. Even if you don't want to consider buying from them, there's some chance that prices from AMD will drop as NVIDIA releases more of them.

  15. I still need to wait roughly 2-3 months till I get back home.
The 280x will play everything with ease @ 60fps on 1080p. I can't afford a 2k/4k whatever screen, and using one will only make me long for a more powerful pc in the end. So that's a no go. 1080p is just fine.
I don't expect the games to suddenly become SO MUCH more demanding to the point of not being able to play anything at 50fps average in the coming months. My old desktop had a radeon 4000 series which still played everything on high 1080p settings after about 3-4 years. Not 50fps, but playable still.

The 280x seems to be the top of the 'excellent' tree. A 290x is an enthusiast card, but the price is almost double. No freaking way.
I also have nothing against nvidia. would maybe even prefer them because of the better support. But budget is always a problem.

Everything depends on how much I can sell my laptop for. I hope 800EUR. Already put it up for sale eventhough I can't sell it yet. But somebody was already interested. My brothers gf apparantly wants the iphone I found, so all together I will already have around 1000-1100 EUR. I just don't want to spend much more than what I'm able to get together. Especially after this expensive internship.

  16. My serious advice is to wait for nvidia Maxwell, the changes could be on the same levels of what Intel did to AMD with the Ix - series

The other components are fine and A++ on the black pearl, beautiful case

  17. I've heard people whisper the new Nvidia line up is still far away and we shouldn't count on seeing it any time soon.
That said a completely new line up will come with a price tag. Nvidia always being the more expensive manufacturer I wonder if it will be something worth waiting for.
But as mentioned, I still have to wait till june ;)

    Btw
Does anybody know a good mechanical keyboard?
You got the Filco, Ducky and CM stuff which I know of.
But the first two are too expensive (IMO).
The CM storm quickfire TK looks good and is almost half the price. But believe it or not, I never bought a keyboard before.
I always used the old keyboards my dad brought home, and now that I read up on all this mechanical keyboard talk I think I know why. The sound 'clickclackclick' and the feel was always good.

I have the Shine 3 Year of the snake and love it to bits.

The CM storm is a decent make for the price... I cant rember the other decent makes though, I suggest stalking http://reddit.com/r/mechanicalkeyboards and find one you like

  19. Decent is good enough for me, who's used to $10 HP keyboards.
It's also one of the cheaper few with backlight.
